The hearts weekly challenge for July 6th requires that we "shoot the moon" once to get the badge. This is the definition of shooting the moon:
Shooting the Moon
When one player takes all Hearts and the Queen of Spades in one round. That player then has the option to either add 26 points to everyone's score or subtract 26 points from his or her own score.
That ain't my idea of shootin' the moon. :o
What's with the hearts challenges. Geez there seems to have been a lot of them.
I can only hope that some hearts players can come up with some tips. I've never played this game anywhere but at pogo, so I can barely get through it.
Tips I can think of off hand would be if you double browsed you could control your partner passing cards to you and if you were trying to shoot have partner go under or throw hearts at right time.
Also watch your hearts when passing cards.
If you have a-k-4-7 (example) pass the 4-7 so your only hearts are winners.
Also if you are loaded in one suit get rid of all your hearts.
There is no trump so you can run the table if you are one suit heavy.

Double browsing is explained in the Club Center of this site.
Double browsing would certainly help, but since it's only one you need, the Capt's advice is good.
If you have no concern about any other wins, just load up on hearts and high spades and try to take all the later hands. Most times you'll crash and burn but it shouldn't take more than 10 hands tops to do this...
Jeffer is right, as usual. I am going to play with a friend and communicate well while doing so. I will play the Queen and get it as soon as possible and play all the high hearts and try to take the low ones. It sounds more intimidating than it is.
there is a program called smart explorer where you can load as many names as you want so you can play as everyone at the table O0

ok im confused lol..i downloaded smart explorer opend ie and smart explorer used my moms name and mine and i only got 1 game box up and when i went to join myself it clicked over to the other name and booted me..what did i do wrong?

Don't use IE. Use smart explorer. Sign in one account, go to a room and sit at a table (make it private, of course). Click the main pogo hearts page from the smart explorer task bar (there should be 3 - the pogo hearts page, the room and the table). At the top of the page, right click on the 'sign in' link and click 'open in new window' and sign in another account in this new, 4th page. Now take your new account name into the same room and sit at the table with your original account name. Do the same thing two more times and you'll have yourself and three ringers sitting at a table. When you are set, you will have 12 smart explorer windows (3 for each name). Then you can easily shoot the moon or even shoot the sun.

An easier way with smart explorer, after you get one account up and at a table, just go to the game page and instead of right clicking and opening new window, just click sign in, and sign in as new player. that way you don't have 5 million windows open. Just make sure the person is fully loaded and seated at the table or it will bump you.
I've been doing this way for a while and it's much easier!

Hearts is an aweful game, and I know as much about 'shooting the moon' as I do about how my autos really work!!And I don't know the first thing about making an auto. Hmmm, it is possible that it could. Guys, this is an easy challenge. Don't make it harder than you have to. Just play with someone you know and communicate. If you have a hand with high hearts just run with it. If you hand is bad then stand and sit until you have a hand with high hearts. Max and I have plotted this out already and it is a piece of cake.
Is it possible to make a 2 player room in Hearts? I am not any good at all at that game. :(
No, afraid not. Four hands are dealt in hearts.
I just went and looked at the hearts options. Please make sure that your box that is marked "must take jack of diamonds to shoot the moon" is not checked. I believe the last hearts challenge had something to do with this feature being implemented. Having this boxed checked for this week's challenge will only make it harder.

Barb is correct here. It's not hard to pull this one off if you aren't concerned about actually winning any games. With a willing partner(s) it should be easier still. I expect to get it against the bots within 10 hands tops.
It's not the hearts challenge that I'm dreading - I already did all the ranks in harvest and I'm not looking forward to going back 'down on the farm'! But to be on the safe side I downloaded smart explorer and loaded 3 names into a room and it looks easy enough but does anyone know how long the evaluation period is for smart explorer? Thanks for all the tips and good luck tomorrow. I'm expecting the hearts rooms to crash and burn like the omaha one did but we can always hope things will go smoothly.
There is only a nag screen with smart explorer, I believe. It will just ask you to buy, then just click no or whatever the option may be, and it should let you continue on your way.
The Smart Explorer I believe is good for 30 days. And it's 30 days that you actually use it, not from when you first started.

This challenge was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Thanks to Smart Explorer and some careful planning on what cards to pass, I got this badge in 1 hand. Now, I'm done all my challenges and off to finish getting my first bingo badge. Good luck all.
i agree Motley....thanks to Smart Explorer I won a badge for me and my friend in 2 hands...this was alot easier then it sounds....it does take 4 players that will pass the right cards and then play the right cards...but should not be a problem getting if done this way
I have no idea what i did, but i got the badge with four hands.......thank goodness because so many people were trying to tell me how to play and i just dint get it......hearts is over my head.........lol O0
i got this badge in under 5 minutes..there were so many people willing to help..all i had to do was go in main lobby and ask if anyone was helping with badges and several were helping..went into room they made..and boom...had it first hand..Pogo has some of the nicest people :)

Ok, I have the badge already but I wanted to point something out about "Pogo not changing the game" when it comes to hearts. I'm a BIG TIME hearts player on Pogo and have my wonderful red rating in this game but I've noticed Pogo made one REALLY big change to this game. Typcially when playing against the computer, the computer players would ALWAYS toss their high hearts to you. Since this challenge comes out, they only pass along the 2, 3, or 4 of hearts. Now I'm sure you can ask for help in the lobby and get the badge quickly (I earned it on my own) but for Pogo to say they don't change the style of play is complete BS! I've never seen anything like that in the game and any good hearts player would tell you that unless you have a chance at shooting the moon, you don't keep your high cards. Pogo is a bunch of lying son of a...
I noticed the same exact thing. I can play hearts with my eyes closed, and usually I get the ace of hearts dumped on me. The bots were a little more clever this time.
i've downloaded smart explorer but how does it work to get the badge? i guess i misunderstood what other people were saying about it earlier that it helped them to get the badge . :-\

It is a long explaination and one that I am not sure I could give well. Someone else may be able to explain it to you. Until then, you could use the "search" tab and type in the key words "smart explorer" and see if you come up with anything. Good luck! Get that badge.

I don't know if anyone know this but, if you also shoot for the sun, you also get credit for the badge. I was playing and got all the tricks and got the badge. Hope this info is helpful

Shooting the Sun is even more difficult than Shooting the Moon: If you take all 13 tricks - that is, every card in the deck - you can either add 52 points to everyone's score or subtract 52 from your own.
well i thought i had it all figured out i loaded the names all in the smart explorer i go to join a table one name joins the next two won't. I get a message saying that its got problems on both other names won't load i get incryptions message . I'm not sure how other people did it earlier but this does'nt work for me so if other people try it just wanna warn you the browser may not work for you probably better just to ask someone for help :D gl all!!
I went into a full room asked if anyone was willing to help....I was able to get 3 others they stayed til all of us got ours, it only took 5 hands. :D O0

I have a question. I downloaded smart explorer, and i dont know what i am doing. I open it, go to pogo's home page. Log in with my club name, go to a NON club room, and get the table. I try to add another name, which i can sign in pogo, go to the room, but when i click on the table where my club name is, it boots my club name out. Therefore i cant get 4 names in there. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong, i am horrible at hearts, because i have no idea on what i am doing. I just want the badge. Thank u very much for anyone's help.
I downloaded hearts assistant, just to see if it would play the bots, and it didnt work. I used IE 6 as my browser, and my club name, but it just sits there. And i even opened the game before i opened the auto, and still nothing.

I got my badge in 15-20 minutes...
I played against computers, and just waited for a hand where I had 7 or maybe even 8 hearts. My tip would be to pass as many cards of the same suit as possible, especially if you have low cards (like 3-5-6 of spades, for example).
in smart explorer...get all logged in and get a table , then minimize all screens...then go up to the top and get a new blank page....go to pogo ...log in with another user...go to table and get seated....minimize all screens and keep doing this till you have 4 players...then bring up the table screens and you should be set....
A guest just came to chat and asked about the challenge. I went with them to help them and I never did catch their name, lol. Whoever you were, masked woman, you rock at hearts! Thanks for making that very easy. Enjoy the badge and share your knowledge with the others and everyone will have the badge too.
This may be a little late but those who are having problems staying logged in with Smart Explorer, you must go to File>New>Blank Page...do not pick Current Page as this will clear the page you are currently viewing. Keep doing that until all names are logged on.
I have a diff problem with Smart Explorer and that is the java doesn't work, any help/hints? >_<;

do not use sun java with smart explorer use mvms....its under tools options advanced just like IE uncheck sun java and use the jit compiler for virtual machine requires restart of broweser only not the whole computer

I tried with smart explorer, but found that being able to view all four players hands was really hard. I changed the screen resolution to 1024x768 from my usual 800x600. They all fit on the screen better, but I can't see them well enough to play.
So I just lurked in the Hearts lobby about 3 min. Some very nice person was there just helping ppl get their badges.
I got mine in the second hand. There were 3 of us in there that didn't know what the heck we were doing so the first hand was a test run. I stayed until the other two got theirs. It took one hand for each of us to get the badge.

That was very sweet and cooperative of you to stay and be a part of the badge experience like that. Someone suggested a few weeks ago to pounce into a Euchre room with a game in progress, snag the win and bolt out, and I was saddened by this attitude. Congrats on your badge and you get a gold star for being an excellent person and Pogo player!
Good lord, getting that badge was worse than that infernal Dice Derby one that drove me insane! I am now a blithering idiot and am ready for a banana mudslide at 2 p.m. :o ;D I did it the hard way and it only took me 47 hands (continuous no less) to get.

The only way I could get this stupid badge was to join a room with 3 little "helpers" in it. We would tell the facings on our cards in chat, and go from there...it worked too. All 4 of us had our badges in under 15 minutes :D. Just be careful...there are some "watchers" that like to sneak in to see what your doing.

I got my badge the same way Madonna. Three other people trying to help me get mine and I helped them get theirs. Most of the time I try not to go into any rooms that I do not know who the people are, but it worked fine for me last night and we all had a blast helping each other out. O0 O0
PS: Can someone explain to me what smart explorer is and what it does? Does it take the place of Internet Explorer? I am a little new at this and any help would be great.

How to use it to double and triple browse is complicated and best explained in detail by someone else. Please use the search tab and type in the key words "smart explorer" and you may find someone who has posted the lengthy and detailed instructions for using this method.

I Got Mine,And My 2 Friends In Less Than 5 Min......I Used "Double Browsers" For Mine ANd "One" Of My Friends Names And My Other Friend Came In....And Me And Her Played With A Computer And We Seen Who Had Most Of The "12" Hearts And Whoever Did Thats Who WAs Getting THe Badge/And Passing The Other Hearts To If Possible. But I Got All Those In Less Than 5 Min....And If You Haven't Gotten It Yet GL O0

I got mine and my daughters in 10 min apiece, I just set the game to no passing, went in, checked the hand real quick, and closed if I didn't like it, lather, rinse, repeat. Setting 'end game early if scoring has been determined' makes it a little faster too.
