Wow. There is an international airport about 15 miles from me. It doesn't happen often but sometimes, due to weather or whatever, they have to have planes take off in my direction and they go directly over my house. I walk my dog early and as the plane is passing by, I hardly hear a sound. At that hour, they use some sort of engine adjustment so the planes go more slowly and almost completely silently. I wonder why they don't use that tech whenever over a residential area. I am also happy that I am not on the usual course for take offs and landings; one day some plane will have a mechanical problem and I don't want to be in the path!

My daughter lived a block from a military base. After a while, you get used it, and look forward to the landings and takeoffs.

I'm not sure I could get used to it ... I'm a pretty light sleeper.
