Title: pogo Gems
Post by: jeffery on October 25, 2006, 12:57:48 PM
got this off the beta sight
O+O O+O O+O O+O O+O

Intro to Gems

Weve got an exciting new addition to Pogo that well be introducing to you over the next few days and weeks. Pogo is launching some great new Premium features later this year, and we want to get your feedback and input on them!

Feature #1 - Premium Pogo Mini items: Your Mini is motionless no longer! Weve got a whole slew of great new animations and extra-cool items to adorn your Mini with. Youve probably already seen some of these in the Mini Mall here in Pogo Beta-land already, but theres a bit of a twist to them you havent seen. More on that in a moment

So how does one acquire these amazing new treasures, if not with tokens?

Well, were introducing a new way to pay for things on Pogo called Pogo Gems. Heres how it works: You buy packages of gems and then you can use the gems to get things like the Premium Mini items and the Mix-n-Match Badge Albums. Youll also be able to use gems to get Premium Badge Albums (at a discount, no less for a limited time).

You probably have a few questions at this point. Lets see if we can answer a few:

1) Wait. Let me get this straight. You have to PAY for Gems?

Yes. But no on the Beta Program. Any payments you make on the Beta Program will not be valid and you will not be charged.

2) Why do this at all?

We wanted a fun and secure way for Pogo members to acquire Premium features on the site; one that didnt require that you do a credit card transaction every time you wanted to get something. Its a hassle for you and a hassle for us. With Pogo Gems, you can put in as much money as youre comfortable with, and then spend it down at your convenience. When you run out, you can quickly add more with just a few clicks.

3)Are Pogo Gems only for Club Pogo?

For now, yes, because the features we chose just happened to be Club Pogo features (Minis and Badges). We are looking at Premium features that all Pogo members can use and some of them might require Pogo Gems.

4) Are you going to start charging Pogo gems for every new feature on the site?

Good gravy, no! Pogo Gems are for Premium features that are completely optional. Well continue to add great new features and games to Pogo and Club Pogo that dont require Pogo Gems to get.

5) Are all new Mini items going to require Gems?

No. Well continue to add great new Mini items to the Mini Mall for tokens at the same rate we have been since they launched. The Premium items are something new well be releasing in addition to the token items we put out every two weeks or so.

6) Are there other ways to get Pogo Gems?

Sure. Well give everyone a few gems (as a gift) to get them started. You can also win some (in varying amounts) in the Jackpot Spinner.

Wed like your help to test out these features in the next few weeks and well have more specific instructions and helpful info coming in the next few days. And note any suggestions or bugs you see in the "Gems" or "Animated Minis" section of the Bug Form.

Pogo is getting way too greedy in my opinion..when pogo first started you could use your tokens to bid on stuff then they got rid of that then the increase in yearly membership then the poppit show at 20 bucks and now this? whats going to be next! if people would stop buying it they would go back to lowering prices and give more freebies..I am putting my foot down on this one  pogo can keep their junky mini stuff ! this has boycott all over it greedy greedy greedy pogo  :oo

I tell you, $20 bucks is a whole lot of money to some people (like me) and already plopping out 5.99 every couple months for preumium badge albums plus 34.99 for a year just to get pogo is enough.  I dont understand why we can't say a million tokens is worth 400 gems or somthing, and buy the badge albums that way.  There is no way I'm buying gems just for mini items, that's getting a bit greedy on pogo's end.

I will buy the gems to pay for my badge albums most likely instead of doing transactions all the time it sounds a little easier... but i will not buy mini stuff with my money that i know

well i think its pretty bad that you cant use paypal or anything for the new badge albums, and now it sounds like our tokens are gonna be pretty much worthless soon too

Pogo got everyone hooked on these dam badges and now they are doing a power play with gem to get even more $$$$.who know what else pogo will be charging $$ for.All i know is they way they keep prizes from everyone and suspend alot of people on  !@#$  Bulls#$% i would think very long and hard before getting sucked into there buy a gem and badge ora pogo gets enough money every year there getting greedy now they want more......maybe they should start giving away cars and houses instead of a stingy 5 dollars or t-shirt >:((

Wow alot of complaints about this (here as well as elsewhere). Remember this is OPTIONAL. Nobody has taken your hand and led you to the ATM to withdraw money for this. A company HAS to continue to break new ground and reinvent things otherwise they'll go stale. For example check out the candy isle and you'll see a bunch of varieties of the original Hershey's bars, some that cost ALOT more. As well as many other examples.

You still get to play all the games and the weeklies are still there. I don't think I've ever seen a chatroom where people are saying I have more badges then you nya nya. Besides we all now tokens are useless anyway. Otherwise I would have stockpiled enough up to pay my daughters college tuition years from now.

I will be getting this because I enjoy the badges but not for my mini.

I know the stuff is optional-but I think what is pissing people off the most is pogo charging us to get stuff for our mini's

yes, of course it's optional. But if Pogo starts charging extra money every time they "break new ground and invent new things", how is that fair to the regular members? We signed up and paid our $35, yet we're not entitled to free upgrades on the site we're paying to use? By hiding behind the "it's optional" cloak, they're forcing us to stick with the original version of Pogo we joined with, sans upgrades, new games, mini items, badges....

So what is my $35 paying for? They certainly can't claim its for game development or upgrades to the site, if I then have to go and pay extra for them.

I don't have the link handy, but I saw on another Pogo info site some information about the Gems and Mix-n-Match albums...

The badges for these albums will be between 12 and 18 gems EACH. The current 10 badge premium albums are $5.99 (that's about 60 cents a badge - Gem badge prices are about 6.23 cents per gem [80 for $4.99] so that's 75 cents a badge [12x6.23] or 7.50 for a 10 badge album of the cheaper badges). This is for the lowest gem group price. I think you save a small amount if you buy in larger quantities. So, badges will cost more this way. :(

They have about 35 mix-n-match badges already planned - some of the challenges look rough for something you have to pay extra for and might not get the first time. Challenges are not a flat two weeks for every badge...some of them are less time like "win 5 Aces Up hands in 30 minutes." There is also the 2 week length like "be the only bingo in the room 10 times in 2 weeks" [I love this one - NOT]. What I want to know is what happens if Pogo goes down or you have some other technical issue? Do you have to pay the gems again to try for the badge? Or can you just reactivate it like the other premiums - gosh I hope so!

I am addicted to badges, but why can't they just keep stuff the way it is...This is just a way to charge more for the badges by adding a "new" way to charge us. I guess they think the pretty packaging will keep us from doing the math. I hope mine is correct...well, maybe I don't, since it doesn't look good! LOL
