I'm in the market for a laptop computer. As I have never before purchased a laptop I'm understandably reluctant. I mean we are talking about a REAL good hunk of change here. Here is what I know I want/need. I want to play games of a reasonable complexity/speed. (IE: Warcraft, Diablo ][, etc.) I MUST be able to play DVDs. Would like to be able to record /copy my own if possible. Other than those few requirements I want to get the most bang for the buck. I'm looking to spend $1500-$1900 or so. Can anybody give me some ideas on what I should get? Where? What's their return policy etc.. Thanks everyone for any help that you can give me. I want this REALLY, REALLY, bad.
That's a tough question to answer easily. I had my desktop made custom, and am picking up a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) on the way home today. However, I doubt, its what you're looking for, as I just wanted basic functionality and a decent battery life. I also got a company rate from Dell so price was the final factor.
I've always trusted C-Net's opinion on computers (www.cnet.com). I'd take a look at their buying guide and reviews, then price what you want on some of the websites (Dell, HP, Alienware). If you're like most of us, you always want one step above what you can afford. But considering your budget, you should be able to get a nice machine for the price.
