It doesn't work for me at all in Sun Java ...
MS Java locks up pretty good. (couldn't get it to solve one puzzle)
The latest version i had before had a ave of 73% solving rate in SunJava (had it run for over an hour)
Don't understand why the solver is acting like this now ..
Don't get me wrong .. I'm not saying this is bob's fault (he's a pro and knows what he is doing)
This has come to be quite a shock for us .. we thought we were [---] close to having the solving engine perfect.
hmm, i downloaded it but i couldnt extract the files..kept saying "not enough storage availible to complete this operation ??? the setup.exe kept saying could not find "the place i saved it" aborting setuo...im using XP pro.
Bob says he has it running great on his computer. I thought I would put it up over here and let you guys look at it. I can't get it to run on any of my dozen computers.

It seems to be locking up on me quite a bit as well. It did solve two games using Microsoft Java, but sometimes have to help it along. Tried Sun Java and it locked up just as much. WinXP, 2.6 ghz, 32 bit color, etc. Yes had to extract the files with Winrar as the reg. setup was not correctly done.

It works on bro's computer with Sun Java and Club Pogo (only get the odd error)
Lowering the play speed did seem to help a lil.

Just upzip both to the folder and run the exe...You dont have to do setup

When i run the setup .. i get a "can't find setup.LST" error.
There is no installation...you only have to unzip and run the .exe...Dont know why he zipped em like he did...All I did was upzip both to a folder and click on the .exe..Came up fine for me

ok when i went to the link pogopal gave my windows thing came up asking to open or save and i said save, i got a ziped folder called "paydaysetup.zip" so i unziped it and i got "PDPCheck.cab" and "setup.exe" so what am i suppost to click on now??
Open the PDPCheck.cab file in either XP or some other compression utility like Winzip and extract them all. Once done, open the PDPCheck.exe file and the program should load fine.

I pulled out PDPCheck.exe and PPsolver.dll out of that dir and placed them on my desktop ...
Works like a champ with IE / Sun Java / Club Pogo.
I guess it didn't like the other files in that dir ...

Hmm, I can get the program to load fine. It places itself just below my game window, but it's not doing anything??
I've tried different speed settings, and even tried the sticky computer option but nothing still.
Perhaps the setup files are a little messed up?

Works great for me! Fast, even on my 733Mhz machine. No problems. I'm using MS JVM.
Mine can move the cards up to the freecells but seems to have a problem of moving them back down....
Moved them to desktop and having same problems here to Element... Seems to get us for some reason... Had issues with mahjong as well :(

i dragged the pdpcheck.exe and ppsolver.dll on to my desktop like mayhem and a few others said had worked, opened freecell in 1026 x 768, 24 bit, opened pdpcheck.exe, and it sits there not doing a thing. ???
hey i gotta question, does this auto look at all the cards and then decide all moves its gonna make throughout the game? OR does it look at the cards then just start playing by ear?
btw...can i get can i get free registation for this version and the final or do i only get a free registration for 1 version??

Having trouble with set up too......I got the file unzipped and put it to my desktop.....I have a folder that says paydayfreecellsetup......and when I click on it ....it brings up another folder with PDCheck and set up in it......no exe file.......I have windows XP........the other posts I have read about opening it up are of no help to me.......I computer "illiterate" here.......set by step here and where to find things on my computer. Can anyone help?? PLEASE ???
It shouldn't matter where you put the files, as long as the program loads. I wish mine was at least playing the game, like the rest of you. However, I did find a option that did work. Error Report. Sent good 'ol Bob a little report of my problem. Glad it's there too, cuz Bob is wanting feedback. I hope it helped. Work darnit!!
To Bumpers: If you don't know you have Winzip or something like that don't worry. Xp has a built-in zip compression program so you can extract the files. Just double-click the Zip file you saved it to. It should open a window and you'll see 2 files there, Setup.exe and PDPCheck.cab
Click the 'File' option at the top of the window and select Extract All. It should show you a Directory to extract it to, usually it will create a new folder where the zip file can be found and extract the files in the new folder. Go ahead and extract them.
Do the same for the PDPCheck.cab file, and then find the new folder and click the PDPCheck.exe file and it should load for you.
first bumpers right click on the "paydayfreecellsetup.zip" folder and click unzip or extract all then when it extracted i had to use a program called winRAR to extract PDPCheck (just by right clicking again and selecting "extract all") and once i extracted PDPCheck i just opened it and clicked on PDPCheck.exe and the auto program came up 8)

For what it's worth I am having the samr problems as everyone else. Its just sitting there. I tried with IE6,Netscape7.1 and Aol and nothing with any of them. I guess this is why they call it beta testing. From what I see it does'nt look like the origanl pics that where posted here

Now that you mention it Element, I've never tried using WinRar to extract the files. Maybe that's why the program isn't working for me, not 100% sure.
Have you tried using Winzip to extract the files? Just wondering if it makes a difference, because normally Winzip will not open any cab files.

winzip and winrar are basically the same thing. if you extracted the files using winzip and payday isn't working, than nothing will change if you use winrar.

not sure if this is helpful or not, but after clicking on the exe, and playint around with the options, I finally got it to work when "sticky computer" is checkmarked. works now on all play speeds.

Another problem i see in it is the auto repeats its moves quite often :-\ so i guess thats a positive for those who are worried about showing up on the "scroll bar" at the bottom ;D
Maelstrom & Element thank you for your help........I do have winzip.....and it extracted all the files....I found the folder where was unzipped too but **sigh** nothing there that says PDPCheck.exe file only PDPCheck and setup.......when I check on PDPCheck.....it pops up another window with 12 things in it..I left clicked on it and it came up with that file of 12 icons and when I right click on PDPCheck it shows a drop down window...with multople selections...I chose open with IE and the same 12 icon folder came up......grrrr...but nothing with PDPCheck exe file......sorry but I am computer challenged.

If you right click on it and dont see "extract all" in the little menu that pops up then try downloading winRAR with the link i provided then right click on it again and see if you see "extract all" 8)

I unzipped the file, then I unrared the *.cab, Now when I run setup.exe it tell me "error can find setup.LST" Does anyone know what to do? I can run PDPCheck.exe without installing but it doesnt run good, it is trying to pull an ace from top bottom of the stack.
from what i know thats all you have to do..i dont think doing anything to the setup file will change the way the auto plays or any other file for that matter ;)

why did they put a setup file then? just wondering! Also, you could actually delete all the other files (except for the 2 you moved to the desktop) and it would still work, so tell me what all the other files are?
I made a Text file and put the location of the dir in it and named it setup.LST, then when I ran it, it said "insert disk"!!!!

to put it on your desktop just right click and click on "cut" then go to your desktop (click anywhere on your desktop to make sure) then right click on your desktop and click on "paste"
now do that for "ppsolver.Dll" and for PDPCheck.exe and you should be good 8)
We are obviously going to make a nice little setup for it....the final version will only have those 2 files. I just wanted people that had a clue to look at it first so they could see what we were doing.

oh didnt see that.. well when your extracting PDPCheck.CAB just right click and select "extract to specified folder" (should be thrid option down) then it will ask you to select a folder and i menu will come up and pick a folder you WILL remember cause once its extracted goto the folder you just picked and you will see PDPCheck.exe in a folder then just do what i said eariler about cut and paste 8)
So that means all the "other" files are for the installation? So I am guessing this means no more one file programs!

No, if you can open PDPCheck.exe thats all you need 8) cause thats all i did and mines solved a complete puzzel by itself befor 8) , well almost lol
i think the best thing we can do who have not got payday working (including myself :() is to wait until the next beta version comes out. hopefully all of the bugs will be fixed when it is released.
I've yanked the old one and put up Alpha 2. I've ripped those 2 files out and made it into an extractable .exe

hi i tried the link for it and I am unable to get there. keep getting the page can not be displayed and can't connect ot server.
check your address bar, make sure the address in the address bar matches with the address that pogopal gave 8)
for some reason i had that problem with pogopals first address he gave, everytime i entered it, it would add an http// to the address :o so there would be 2 http//'s and everytime i had to delete one and press enter to get it to go ;)
I have the freecell auto running on 2 computers ...
#1 = IE6 / SunJava / Club Pogo
#2 = IE6 / MS Java / Reg Pogo
both have been running for 40+ min and not one error on either of them (and solved every single game)

Yes, but when you use the report problem feature it emails the info to pogopal. It sounds like they are getting swamped with problem reports.

This is what i know :
Bob's planning to write code to guess which move opens up play (when / if the solver gets stuck and is not sure what to do next)
My friend is trying to modify the solver so it will accept / read 1/2 board of cards and solve from there (it currently doesn't support this .. that i'm aware of)
it works for me but it allways gets stuck.
same here, but i'll pause the auto and finish the game myself if i can. for me, the auto isn't at the point to where i can go off and watch tv or something, because i know the auto will be stuck after a few minutes or so.

Well, it's good to see some people are getting it working. You should feel lucky even if it doesn't work 100%. I can't get it to work at all, it sits there waiting for the table. I've tried it on 3 computers, 4 browsers (IE6, Opera, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox), 3 types of Java (MSJVM, Suns Java, and the old Netscape Java), and different screen sizes and colours. Each time is the same result. It just sits there doing nothing. So, anyone having it work is quite lucky. Hopefully in the Beta it'll work on something. I'll be awaiting the arrival of it. ;D

My auto works fine, for about oh... a few games before it sticks. And, as long as I dont pause my game and try to resume it, it will finish the game, but as soon as I pause it, it gets all goofed up.

alpha 2 sticks for me after a few plays or pausing or stopping it. I will try alpha 3 and sees if it works better. why isn't payday working for my regular pogo account?? it works fine when im on club pogo. i changed the screen size to 1024x768, 24 bit, and the auto doesn't do a thing. from what i been reading on the board, im not the only one having this problem.

I was doing some testing for DJ last night and i was sure i was using version 3 .. maybe not.
Hmmm, well me and my fiancee still haven't been able to get this working, not either version on any computer with any settings. Still hoping Beta will fix this soon. I've noticed some people have trouble with normal pogo. Maybe that is the problem. I don't have a club account to try it on though so there's no way to tell. If there is extra problems with normal pogo though hopefully they find a fix for that and it'll work for me. Sounds like you guys have done well though, at least it works for some. I'll just continue waiting for new versions. It's gotta work someday! LOL

Well thanks to Cheat2Win I now have club pogo and the auto works! Not well, but it does work lol. Thanks a lot to you. Guess the auto just doesn't like me and normal pogo lol. Well Off to get the Beta now, maybe that'll have even better luck.

I agree, it is nice to see the versions flying out like this, and seeing so much work be done on it. Well on Club pogo the beta works much better than the alpha for me. It gets stuck sometimes but it's not too bad. The beta works on normal pogo for me now too, but it doesn't work very well. It clicks wrong cards and reads the board wrong. It plays for like 30 seconds and then I have to stop it. At least it's improved for that. Maybe will be more fixes by the time my 5 days runs out anyway lol. Hope so! Keep up the great works guys.

a new graphics card would solve that problem
I have a new graphics card except ME no matter what I do defaults to 16 bit I also updated etc
try updating the graphics card driver .. sounds like your using the windows default driver.

24-bit true color and 32-bit true color are exactly the same. The 32-bit true color does not use 8 of the bits.

If ME is really your OS you should seriously think about an upgrade to 2000 or XP... I spent countless hours fixing bugs in ME for my parents computer... I finally got so sick of it that I just put on Windows 2000 server and said f**k it to the compatibility issues it was having at the time... Well, speaking for my fiancee I would like to say thanks, while at the same time reporting a strange problem haha. That problem, and the thanks is for payday paycheck messing up. Her trial goes down some, sometimes, but more often than not it goes up. It did get down to 93%, but is usually over 100% haha. It was doing it on just 1 computer, now it's started doing it on 2 computers. Sure, we aren't complaining, free % is good, but I do think if it did that to too many people it'd be a problem for you guys. Thought I'd let you know, and hey, thanks, she's happy! ;)

Well I don't know about the alphas. They don't work on normal pogo for her so she uses the beta. 2 computer, shareware goes up, I guess that's to make up for the times we couldn't use them haha. Either way, I'm happy. Rather it do that to her than me anyway.
what OS's (operating systems, XP, ME, 98 ect.. ) are they working on? ???
Same OS I'm using. Both of her computers are running XP Pro. Don't know what her computer does, but it's weird...and good lol.

Yea .. it's really weird how it runs fine on some peoples computers and not at all on others.
Currently it solves 73% on mine .. litterally no lock ups at all.
We are currently looking at either :
A) Do a major fix on the current engine (if its even possible)
B) Modify a complete new engine.
We might end up doing option B .. not to worry tho. Shouldn't take us that long since we already know what needs to be done. (doing once before already sure helps)

Hey Mayhem just curious on the engine for yall... Did you guys ever consider making it "think" it's way through the game before it starts to play? It seems to me from the betas and alphas that it really only thinks ahead one card move... So the whole game through it will only ever move 1 card at a time... It sure could finish a lot of games a lot faster if it played the top four slots and other open stacks as more than just a 1 card move... Errr wait... I might have just dissproved this in my mind... If the slots are open the game will just move the cards really fast for you if you try to move a stack of say 5... So maybe in my thinking, the engine instead of having the pogo game engine make all those moves for you, it instead just does all the moves itself... So it seems like this is almost a brute force approach on the cards... It seems to go through every possible move it really has at that time and trys it to see what opens up... Maybe that is just a much easier program than having it try to solve the puzzle from the start... Never thought of a brute force on the freecell... But it seems to work great... Just some ideas I was throwing out there...
The way it works now .. yea it basically brute forces it way through and see what opens up. (i wasn't aware of this till quite recently)
On the downside, doing things this way seems to be causing us much grief.
So with that being said .. we are most likely going to use a completely new solver that will "think things through first" then solve (almost like what BubbleBuster does).
That will solve the problem of not being able to start the auto half way thru the game + fix a bunch of other minor things.
Thinking it through first though just seems like it would require a MUCH bigger engine, unless it was brute-force thinking it's way through (much like bubble buster)... To make a truely "smart" program though seems like that would be a lot more work than it would be worth... Maybe making the program work like bubblebuster but just only stop thinking when it has all cards solved is a much easier approach to it... The other thing to, that might help to take into account is that you don't have to get all the cards on the Aces, only have them all showing... Might add a short cut or two in the programming in that you can move the cards around enough so that all the lowest cards of the deck are accessable, then the game auto-finishes for ya...

I,m using beta 4 now an it is solving about 98% of my games with out struggle and the 2% of the time it hangs up i just click on the card that it has highlighted and it goes right back to work I cant wait to see the full version when it is resleased... Keep up the good work ;D ;D ;D

Yea something about this needs to be changed. It did ok for the first game... I dont really like the way it goes card by card. I like the idea of the solver before it actually plays... I hope that works. Right now it is just going around in circles... moving the same dang cards around.
Not trying to be mean... I love the auto and am happy to see it after years and years, but it could use some work. ;D

I will wait for Oscar to make that decision as it really doesnt matter to me. It seemed to work fine last night after I switched rooms. It played one game in 86 moves. Its working fine. I dont know what was up with that string of games in that one room tho.

Why do they want $15 for it and not $10 like normal? Will thall the new programs price go up?
Why im guessing this ones price went up is because it probably took a lot more time to program the engine so it would know how to solve the game and win more accuratly. It is hard to solve a freecell game and for a program to do it, its quite an accomplishment. As for them charging $15 for their next programs i just know we all hope not ;D

Well think about it.... PayDay FreeCell has been out for quite a long while. This program took about 3 years to come out. It is taking over a month or two to just program! You will probably spend $15 on stupid shit around your city... but wont buy a program because oh God.... Its $5 more than the others.

hey, for the finale version can guys program in so that when it messes up or just loses on a game that it will click on "replay hand" instead of new game because i would like to keep my good percentage (as im sure others would) and as for it replaying a hand thats "unbeatable" people wouldnt have to worry about that too much because its only gonna happen what once every 10,000 games, or so. To answer your question, the password for a computer activates the registration for all versions of the software. Worst case is you might have to re-enter the password when you upgrade to a new version.
Unlike many software companies, we do not charge for upgrades. Once you register a product, you can always download the latest version and use it with your existing password.
Once I have the final solver and I know what it is capable of, I will decide when to restart and when to move on to a new game.
We're working on the known problems that bob has submitted to us .. will have an update soon.
Once those are solved, we'll be attempting to make a complete new engine for freecell.

The solver we have does, indeed, solve the game before the auto starts making moves. However, the original author of the solver was only interested in identifying insolvable hands. He has a comment in the code that a 'depth first' search is fast enough. Even when the solution takes 600 mostly useless moves, the solver we have could evaluate 10's of thousands of hands in a minute, which is plenty fast if you are not waiting for some animated game to catch up to you.
When you run Beta 6, you will see up front approximately how many moves the solution will take and how far along the auto is in the sequence of moves.
While it would be great if Mayhem delivers a solver that minimizes the moves, I will be happy with a solver that takes 600 mostly useless moves but runs all hands on auto without disruption.
Hmm, interesting. Perhaps your solver could solve the game on the first solution it comes up with. Then just have an option, to search more and try and beat it in less moves if possible with a Changeable Timer. All being done automatically of course.
The way I see it, there's more than 1 way to beat a particular hand. The same goes for Poppit. If there were only one way to beat a puzzle, no one would play it.
$15 isn't much for a program. Given pogopal isn't your average million dollar company, they have to make a small profit to stay in business. Credit's given where it's due, and if no one had helped make the program it wouldn't be here.

We attempted to fix the problems with the solver and oddly enough, it created new problems and solved even less puzzles.
So with that being said .. a completely new solver is now in the works.
Will let you know when a beta is ready to go.
Beta 4 seemed to work best for me out of all of them.. still got stuck occasionally but the best working one yet (for me anyways)

I know you guys would rather accept a error report from me, but I would just like to note something I've have trouble with ever since the first alpha. The program still has trouble, at times, moving Free cell cards to a column or moving one card column-to-column. It's nice to know that there's less of 'it' in Beta 6, but I hope it will be fixed soon. It does not have trouble moving free cell cards or cards in a column to the Foundation, that is a big plus. It's only random that this occurs, but I've tried it with different play speeds and the 'sticky comp' option and will still have troubles. I am thinking it's the mouse co-ordinates that might be the culprit, am not 100% sure.
I'm not giving my hopes up, but if that's fixed before the final release I won't send another report. Seriously, it almost plays too good to be true.
Nope, it's related to an 'heuristic optimization' in the solver. I have a workaround to the most common problem. I just have not had time to implement it yet.
At the same time, I believe Mayhem is looking into replacing the solver with one that might not have this artifact. One way or another we will solve the problem.
Just got word tonight that the new solver is comming along nicely .. hopefully will have something soon for you guys.

The only thing I notice with beta 6... is the number of moves doesnt seem to be too accurate... unless pogo is the actual [roblem for that and cant count themselves which wouldnt surprise me.

The count displayed includes some spurious moves the auto skips over, ignores or combines into a single move. The game does not count those moves.
I added the count display to reassure our users the solver believes it has a solution even when it spends the middle five hundred moves moving three cards from column to column and back again. Some people were assuming it would continue doing that forever when they saw it in passing.

It's not. A neighbour who has harassed me in the past started at it again on sunday. It has been very upsetting and I have been busy meeting with lawyers etc. Tomorrow, I will be busy refinancing the house to fund the litigation.
I have not had much sleep the past couple nights and I need lots of sleep to properly concentrate on the code. I can barely keep my eyes open now so hopefully I will get some sleep tonight.
Believe me, as soon as I get the last couple defects fixed, I will release the update.

Freecell update ...
Just sent bob the new freecell solving engine. We were able to do it in Visual Basic 6 this time. My friend says it looks great!

The project you sent me has the solver in a separate executable launched through a batch file. I don't see any source code for the solver.
Doesn't look like the new solver is going to work out. (too many files or something)

it ave's around 120-160ish
i've seen it solve a puzzle in 99 moves.
Both of us (Bob and I) have run it and have encountered the same errors on many machines.
