Hey guys! Since I know everyone on here has great opinions..........I'm 1 week into a 2 week free trial of Netflix...also just got a 1 month free trial of Blockbuster online...wondering if anyone has either or both of these and what you think of them...which is better...which is worse...or are they the same? The only difference I can tell is that on Blockbuster they'll give me 2 free in-store rentals a month....They are the same price, seem to ship in the same amount of time. Thanks in advance for you help!
my daughter has blockbuster and she really likes it she has tried netflex that sent her the same movies 3 time and she stop going throught them so she like blockbuster she get what she put in online for
blockbuster sends them quicker and has a bigger selection O0

see I found the opposite with them- smaller selection BUT they do have more copies in stock than NetFilix- with NF you may end up waiting a week or so to get the movie you want {in my experience}. If I were to actually pay for one, it would be NF, no contest.
i think it also depends on where you live too
LOL that's why I love this site! I love getting all the opinions......I signed up for Netflix last weekend. And I had 2 of my movies by Tuesday. But for some reason it didn't ship my 3rd (it was availiable) until yesterday and I won't get it till tomorrow. I sent 2 back today so I'm anxious to see the turnaround time on those 2. I just signed up for Blockbuster this evening so I'm assuming they may ship me a couple tomrrow or Monday.

I think that is true too....when I send my movies back they are going to Indianapolis ( I live in Indiana). And I assume that is where they come from also?!?
I prefer BlockBuster. I guess it does depend on where you live as you say. Netflix seemed to take too long sometimes.

I have Netflix and I do like it. Can't comment about Blockbuster as I've never tried them but I think I'm going to give the free membership a try. After I do I'll let you know which I like better. As for the turn around time with NF, I find it very quick.
We have Netflix here. So far it has been wonderful--really quick turnaround--usually the day after we send them out we get an email from netflix saying that the others are on their way. If you check in your list of movies that you set up it will tell you if there is any kind of wait for the movies. So far havent had any kind of problems with the movies (ie scratched or wrong movies) or lost movies or anything else.

I HAVE bLOCKBUSTER and I love it! Also like someone else said you do get two coupons each month for free instore rentels that way if your between movies and need a movie you can just run down to blockbuster and reat a couple. Netflix can not offer that deal. Same price more options with BB. O0

I was with Blockbuster from Dec 2004 to Sept 2005
I was with Netflix from Sept 2005 to Jan 26 2006
I just went back to blockbuster and heres why
We got around 7 local video stores that accept coupons
3 movies at a time run 18 bucks + tax
1 move at time runs 10 + tax
take the coupons over to the other video stores and get 2 free movies on the weekends = 3 movies at a time
so im getting 3 movies at a time on the weekends (only time i watch them) for 10 bucks by using the coupons compair to 18 per month netflix wants
go BLOCKBUSTER
Ok ....so I've hit my 1st roadblock with Blockbuster ;D......I'm getting a TV series and it totally skipped over disk 1 which was in the 1st que spot and said it was available...and sent 3 other movies instead....what's up with that?

I've never gotten the wrong movie but I got 2 broken ones, so destroyed it was in a hundred pieces. Had to laugh it was so smashed. Totally not their fault though, that would rest with the Post Office.
I have netflix and I love it. Never have to wait too long for new releases and I've never had a problem with getting the wrong movie or broken ones. Every now and then they have to ship me a movie from another warehouse and when that happens the return envelope is to across the country. Since that takes the post office longer to get it back to them I just put 2 movies in an envelope to the local address..lol.
I personally hate Blockbuster from a previous bad experience in the store about a year ago and won't go back to them.
we to have netflix an love it.. we get 2 movies at a time an soon as we send one back we get the email the next day sayin it arrived later that evening i get the email sayin the next has shipped an recieve it the next day.. Cant give an opinion on blockbuster cause we wont use them..
I've used both in the past, even used a third one from Walmart when they were doing it but they've since handed their business over to Netflix since they were getting clobbered in the online rental business (and with good reason- they sucked). When I was first with Netflix, they weren't as good as they are now, it took longer for movies to arrive and I rarely, but at times, did get a disc that was damaged enough that it would either stop playing or had that pixeled effect and made the picture jumpy, and hence made it unwatchable- cuz who wants to sit through all that? I did go over to Blockbuster, but found their selection wasn't as big which also meant less copies of movies so a lot of times the ones you wanted would be on long waits. And I also did not have a working printer while with Blockbuster so I could not take advantage of the 2 in-store coupons that you get and need to print in order to use them. After some time away from the online movie rentals, I have recently gone back to Netflix and they are definitely better.. they are supposed to get and send out movies in like a day or 2, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.. don't know why exactly, maybe the mailman is a little slower some days in getting it to the right spot to be delivered on time, who knows, but it still does not take a long time. I believe they have the bigger selection of anyone even though you can still get some waiting time, usually on the new popular movies when they first come out, otherwise it shouldn't be too bad. I haven't had a real problem since returning to them. Their website and the ease of use and the overall look of it is better as well. They also used to cost more, but have since dropped the prices a bit.. most likely due to the competition of Blockbuster and some other minor places. I'm surprised more places don't do the online movie rentals as popular as it is.
personally don't have either, but if i were to choose, Blockbuster been around much longer and has a better reputation. Just my opinion
Blockbuster the video store has been around longer.. but Netflix was the orignal online dvd rental, and they have been going strong for quite some time now. Blockbuster only followed Netflix in that regard. Netflix is only online, it's not like Blockbuster with actual stores to rent videos/dvds from.
Blockbuster I have had several issues with the store, so I don't care for them. I find them to expensive for my taste. As for the on-line service, yes I did try and I hated it. I would order a TV series disks 1-7 and they would send me disk 2 6 and a movie. Instead of the first 3 disks to begin with. Netflix however, I just love. Yes I have had some minor issues with having to wait a couple weeks for popular new releases and broken or wrong disks. However considering I'm paying 19.57 a month for the 3 at a time and we go thru about 20-25 movies a month. We end up paying about a dollar for each movie (I did the math, for us it equals out to about $0.98 a movie) even for the popular titles, no late fees and no questions asked about broken disks, lost disks in the mail and wrong disk sent. Also unlike blockbuster do send me availbile movies in the order I put them on my list. Tried Wal-mart when Wal-mart was in the game, they were so very bad. 6-8 day turnaround on movies as opposed to 3-4 days with Netflix. I'm quite happy to say I'm going to stay loyal to Netflix. Have not set foot in a real video store in the year and a half we've had Netflix.
I have used both and Netflix has faster shipping in most areas. The problem I'm having with netflix now is that all the hot new releases are on a wait list...I don't usually have to wait for anything with them. I'd recommend netflix over BB for sure.
A couple people have mentioned the tv series discs and not getting them in the right order. Do people who have this problem put all the discs at the top of your queue at once? Like disc #1 in the first spot, down to disc #6 in the 6th spot, or however long it goes? Are you putting any movies in between them? I have been watching a tv series, but I would never expect to watch the entire 6 disc series one right after the other with nothing else in between. So I would put disc #1 in the top spot when I was ready for it, and after that would only move the other discs up in order when I put the other one in the mail, so that that would be the only possible disc that would get sent to me.. I would also have a movie or 2 in the top 3 just for variety. There could be instances where maybe a certain disc couldn't be found or wasn't available at the time they shipped one out to you, even if it says available in your queue (it may just have not been updated yet). I know I have had a disc or 2 skipped in the past even when it said available, only to see a day or 2 later it would go to a "short wait" or whatever. It had me wondering as well, but I guess it's not instantly updated when a supply runs out at a certain time.
As for new releases, I think if there's a certain title that you really want to see as soon as it comes out and don't want to wait for it, you can put it at the top spot in your queue well before it comes out (do a search for the movie title to find it's page then add it). That way it will be the first possible choice whenever they go to send one, even if it's not out yet, they will just go to spot #2 for your next send. I'm not sure how they work out the waiting list, of who gets the discs first, maybe the ones who have had it high in their queue for the longer periods of time.. so that could get it to you quicker if that's the case. Also, if at all possible, if you have the mailing schedule worked out where you know how long it takes for them to get one of your discs, try returning a disc right before the release date of the new one, and maybe they will get it in time that the next one they choose to send you will be the new disc on it's release date or maybe even a day early (I have had movies sent out to me the day before it was to be released in the past, but I'm sure it needs to be timed just right).

To answer your question, when we select a tv series to put on our list, it is automatically put in the correct order for us. The prob I had with blockbuster is that even though the series was in the correct order and all of the disks were listed as available now, blockbuster would still ship out disks 3 and 5 instead of disks one and two. That is where I got annoyed big time and left after one month.

With Netflix, I do that. However, some titles are in great demand and even though the movie is in my #1 spot, it may be listed as short wait or long wait. In that case, Netflix will go down my list and ship me the first movie on my list that is available. When I return a move if the movie in spot #1 is available, it will send me that movie. If it is not, it will send me again the first available movie on my list wheather or not its in the 3rd or 22nd spot.
I guess Blockbuster did it differently with tv series discs. With Netflix, you add each disc individually, the entire series isn't added automatically, which I would like better anyway, that way I get to choose when a disc is sent and which one. I get the 3 at a time plan, so I would never put 2 discs from the same series in the top 3 of my queue, there's only ever just one there.. so I know if any disc from the series gets sent, it will be the one that I want to be sent. I have a quick turnaround this way anyway, cuz as soon as I get one I usually watch the whole thing in a day or 2 max, and get it right back in the mail the next day and then move my next disc in the series up into the top spot at that time. At the same time, the other slots in my queue are still being used for a movie here and there.
TV shows are the biggest reason we're looking into the online deal. The BB store in our city has only the 1st couple season from what we like (CSI, Homicide, Sopranos, Six Feet Under). And we don't have cable that's why we rent them......And we like to watch them all in order ....and that's the problem I had with BB yesterday. I had a season in order then a movie last. They shipped 2 of the TV series, not in the order I had them, and then the movie from the end....no biggie for now cause I just put the skipped disk from BB onto Netflix. We haven't gotten out 1st order from BB yet...it says it shipped on Friday but we won't get it till Tuesday. I'll use it for the free month and then see...but if shipping is always like that I won't keep it....free coupons or not O0
well looks like bb and netfle are bout the same i dont use either daughter does they get some they already hvae gotten me i just go look and buy cause i keep them to look at later duaghter loves smallville amd she didnt get them all in the order she wanted so i went and bought her the last season on it for her to stop bla bla lol me im into horror movies i wait till they come out and go get them have all the dallas collection hubby love that show
Speaking of NetFlix...I got something in the mail regarding a class action settlement. I didn't really pay attention to the details but if you were a member awhile back they are giving you a free month of service.
The website is: http://www.netflix.com/settlement
ty will let my daughter know this
Your welcome.
Netflix!!!! the only way to go!!!!!
Yes I agree, despite maybe one or two minor problems a month with netflix at best, its the only way to go
I have been using Netflix for about 2 years....I love it!!
Never a problem and I get to see around 7-10 movies a month.
Kids love it to.

how much you paying to get 7-10 movie per month... also are those new releases or older junk... I just left Netlfix cause they sent me nothing but old junkie movies
with me I have all the new realeases at the top of my list followed by my older favorites and TV series, that way I always get something I like. I pay 19.57 a month for 3 at a time plan, which is about 20 movies a month and about a dollar a movie.

I added Flightplan last week as soon as it came out and it said "short wait" which they define as 1-2 weeks. They only send you what you have placed in your queue list.
I just watched Flight Plan. It was a good movie. :)
I pay $19.07 a month. I can have out 3 movies at one time. Dependin on how fast you sit down and watch the movie after you get it, you can go through many movies. I get the new releases rather quick. I always put them in my queue as soon as I know they are coming out.
Hope this helps.
How long is your netflix list? Mine has 497 movies on it and hubbys has 499 so we got a lot of movies to watch. The tv series adds up quick though

We've got about 75 on our list..most of them being TV shows and a couple of movies
Some of you may find this article interesting.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/02/10/netflix.renters.ap/index.html
yes I did read that-and yes I must admit were one of those customers that are being throttled. Why? Because we return the movies as fast as we watch them. :( Yet we really have no plans to cancel right now. Yes it bites that for the new releases we get throw to the back of the line and yes we do have shipping delays as well for some of our movies. However, at 19.57 a month for 10-13 movies and no late fees is a great bargin for us since we on a limited income. It equals out still to about $1.00-$1.50 per movie. Which is a great bargin since we can take our time watching it once we get it and don't have to worry about late fees. Before Netflix, we'd watch maybe 4 or 5 movies a month and pay at least $25-30 a month in rentals and late fees because we forgot to return them until a day after they were due. So for now, until something bigger better and badder comes along, were keeping netflix. Blockbuster? well...I wasn't to impressed with them and still am not.
I read the article too...and felt the same way that bubblegum felt.......We have TONS of stuff on our queues on both Netflix and Blockbuster so even if we don't get the newer things as quickly as we'd like we've still got tons of stuff coming....plus now BB gives us 4 free rentals, one a week........I'm still hooked on the fact that it's way cheaper and so much more easier than trying to fight the lines at the BB store to get movies for the weekend.
I don't do the movies but I save a fortune with the video games. :D
