First French and now German? Man Homer, I never realized... ;)
...and I voted yes to this but let me clarify...I will always play. Do I care if you decide not to do it? Not at all... Just thought I'd share. :-*
And it is a College Basketball Tournament....Great. O0
I haven't voted yet because I'm unsure how this would work. Would it be each week we pick the winner of a game and at the end of the entire tournament, whoever has the most correct picks wins? 32+16+8+4+2+1 = 59 possible games (not counting that one team that's always #65 and still gets to play in the tournament of 64!!!!!!)
instead of collage football can we ever have one for hockey please??? ....o yea and i voted yes :)

At my office we get like so many points in the 1st couple rounds for each right pick...then for like sweet 16, elite 8, etc...the point value increases..

Hmmmmm... that sure looks like a mathematical equation, but with
my math, 32+16+8+4+2+1 =
63 :P It's not too hard to figure out without actually doing the math.. 64 teams start, 63 teams will lose 1 game, every game played has 1 loser, hence there has to be 63 games.. that may be some sort of math, but not so much that ya know it's math. :D

Don't forget the "play-in game"... It's usually been played in Dayton the past couple years and the winner becomes the last 16 seed against one of the 1 seeds. So I think it's really 64 games total...
By the way, my vote is an emphatic "YES!!!" to any and all sports related tourneys!! Basketball, hockey, baseball, curling, foosball, beer pong....whatever. spb.gif
I would actually consider that extra game as not being part of the tournament. It's a game to see which team is to become part of the 64 team tourney, and the team that loses that game, I don't think you can say that they got to the big dance and lost as part of the tourney, cuz they never really got there. Like you said, they even play it in Dayton, away from the cities that are hosting the tourney, that tells me it's not part of the tourney. Anyway, Saint had already said in his post, "not counting that one team", and I was going by his post.. which still makes it 64 teams and 63 losers in 63 games. The extra game is a joke anyway, it's really to see who wants to lose to a #1 seed more.. they gotta know goin in that they have no shot. If I'm not mistaken, I don't think any #16 seed has ever beaten a #1 in the first round, let alone if it was the extra team or not.

Sorry to quibble over semantics, guess you're right. Just thought that since #'s 64 & 65 were part of selection sunday that they were indeed part of the big dance. You're right though, the game is a joke...
Well, they have to be selected, otherwise how ya gonna know who's playing? The way I think it, and it's only my opinion, the NCAA may even consider that game to be part of the tournament.. but I only consider the real tournament to be the 64 teams, all of which have a seeding.. is there any kind of seeding involved with the extra game? Those teams aren't one of the 1-16 seeds, they are playing to see who becomes a 16 seed, and part of the real tournament, the loser gets nothing.. they never had a seed, so how would they be part of a seeded tourney? That's why I wouldn't consider that a tourney game. NCAA does actually call it the "opening round game", but that's the only game of the "opening round", when the real tourney starts, it's the "first round". Does anyone who plays in these bracket pools ever include the "opening round game" as part of their pools? I don't think so, not that I've ever seen.. they only include the 64 teams that make up the true, even, bracket. I know it's only technicalities, again this is jusy my opinion as how I view it.
ok. like i said, i think you're right.
so true tho a number one seed to this point has never lost to a sixteen seed but a few two seeds have lost to fifteen seeds so there always could be an upset.one of them type of upsets just one game could ruin someones whole tiurney if they bet. ???

Anyone see that George Washington v. Charlotte game this afternoon...whew!! I've got the March Madness fever...and the only prescription...is more cowbell.
i had to go to the doctor to see if i had march madness, the news wasn't good :-\

Just so everyone knows. There will be a NCAA Basketball Pick'em Contest.
I will be using Yahoo for this to save my sanity. :P
You will need a Yahoo User ID to play. If you don't have one just go to Yahoo and open a Yahoo email account. This will give you your account ID.
Once the site is ready I will make an announcement with instructions. You will need to know which league to join and the password. This information will be passed out once I have things setup.

Well Mr. Illini "fan," they played November 29th & UNC lost by 4...not your expected 20. Also, did Illinois lose their top 7 seven scorers from last year? No, they returned a few key players, including their heart & soul, Dee Brown. UNC completely revamped & just last night defeated the #1 Dukies in Cameron Indoor, thus finishing 2nd in the ACC. Not bad after losing their top 7 scorers.
games dont mean as much now as in the tournament.if it was unc and duke in the tournament my moneys still on duke. :)

If you read the forum we are having a March Madness on the forum only Homer is running it through Yahoo wich I think is great....It takes a lot of pressure off him....it got kinda hectic around here during the football pick-em times
Good luck on filling out your bracket. O0
went to the game tonight...Monmouth rocked! We're gonna go watch some of the teams practice thursday and then go to the OSU-Davidson game (go bucks!) friday. Gotta love having a best friend that's a sports announcer for one of the local tv stations :) I'm hoping to be at as many of the UD games as possible O0
ahh bc pulled out a close one.i was nervous for a minute.had money on the game >:D
Go BC! Take it all the way!
syracuse is my team :)
Syracuse has a tough 2nd round
yes i know.
Yahoo tournament turned out pretty nicely Homer.. Good job on running it.. Wish I could say the same about the games but that's why they call it March Madness :D
Thank you. I wish they updated quicker than they do but hey it's free. ;)
As long as its free I don't mind even if they wait a whole day to update all of the tournaments :D
March Madness in the NIT sense: OMG that was an incedible ending to the Mich / ND game. I was rooting for either team (as it's only NIT) but I jumped out my seat with that game winning shot!

Well, I was 3 for 4 last night... don't feel the same about tonight but here are my picks regardless:

I'm in 3rd place in a money pool but if LSU doesn't upset Texas I'm probably cooked. If they do, I have an excellent chance of winning. :D

Nice recovery by Nova but still trail BC by 4 at the half. :(
We're going to OVERTIME!!!!

I'm not a real big basketball fan. I enjoy watching March Madness and the playoffs in the NBA but for the life of me I'll never understand the point of 1 and 1 free throws. It's like rewarding the defense for fouling someone especially if they miss the first one.

Yeah. At least the BC women are in it taking out a #1 in the last round. Have to hope for UConn now! (Watch, I probably just jinxed them!)
I never watch much basketball either, just mainly the NBA playoffs and March Madness. I follow it a little every now and then by the standings.
LOL I'm gonna go crazy if it's U Conn v. Nova
Gotta root for the hometown team Nova. Not to mention I picked them in our contest. (Not that I can win the prize anyways)
In my money pool I have U Conn beating Nova and winning the championship as well. :o

I'm about in the same boat as you, Homer, in terms of amount of basketball watching, and when. The 1 and 1 free throws is a bit odd, but another NCAA rule I don't get- the possession arrow. When two guys tie up the ball, and the ref signals jump ball (just like in the NBA), but they don't jump it, possession goes to whoever the arrow is pointing to at that time.. what is the problem with just jumping the ball? They do it to start the halves, why not when the ball gets tied up? Doesn't make sense that a "tie" automatically goes to a certain team, and you know which team has the arrow, so you can tie someone up on purpose just to force a turnover and give your team the ball. But, I'm not really into the college sports, maybe there's a reason for it, or maybe it's just one of those wacky things that they have to have to make themselves different from pro sports, I don't know.

Good point. I forgot about that one. You would think they would make it more like the pro game since that's where these guys are gonna try playing.
Same could be said when comparing college football to the NFL as well.
