Just curious if anyone else on the forum would be interested in joining a free fantasy baseball league. I checked out Yahoo's FBL; you can have up to twenty teams per league. This fun league would be for forum members only; that way, we would be playing for bragging rights >:D If anyone's interested, just reply to this thread. If more than 19 people are interested, I could always form additional leagues (good thing they're free O0).
The first regular season game is Sunday, April 2nd. Since the autodrafts are done within 72 hours of the leagues being finalized & everyone registering, I'm going to set the cut-off for 11:59 PM CST, Monday, March 27th. That way, once I get the league(s) set, I'll PM everyone the necessary information.

Actually the league we are in is a 'Rotisserie' league not a head-to-head league.
The way it works is...
Your "team" of players continuously gathers stats in the categories listed. Avg., H, K, HR, ERA, etc., etc.
Then your cumulative stats are compared to the cumulative stats of the other teams in the league, and then ranked for points.
For example: 11 teams in our league, let's say Foxx's Foxes leads in homeruns, Bobby is second, and I am third. Foxx would get 11 points, Bobby 10, and me 9. Every category is like that. Then it adds up your 'points' from all categories to determine the overall leader. That's why it changes every day.
So if you led the league in most statistical categoies you would most likely be the overall league leader as well.

Yes, that makes sense but then one day I lost 27.5 points. How did I lose them if I already had them?? No fair, lol.
Because it is continually changing. There are only a set amount of points possible. 11 points per category is the maximum and that would be if you led every statistical category.
So let's say, for example, that one of your pitchers has a horrible game and gives up 10 runs. His ERA is going to go up your overall ERA (from all your team's pitchers) will go up as well. Most likely some other team (bobby, dj_si, hades, whoever) will then have a better ERA than you. If you were first in that category (11 points) you probably just dropped a few spots (8 points, let's say). That's how you can lose points.
These leagues really aren't my favorite, I prefer head-to-head. But they are fun and challenging because you really have to keep an eye on who has a hot bat, gets lots of stolen bases, stuff like that. Have to watch it every day.

To my knowledge there is no maximum number of starts your pitchers can have in a given week. If you got 'em, start 'em....unless they really stink you know?
There is, however, a maximum number of 'innings pitched' available to your team for the entire season. 1350 innings total for all your pitchers for the whole season. Each position (C, 1B, 2B, etc.) also has a max number of starts per season of 162.
You can find all that stuff under the League tab on our league's home page, then 'Settings' all the way on the right. Look around a little bit and you'll be able to find the standard rules that govern yahoo fantasy baseball leagues. It's a pretty good resource for answering ??'s

Is any player worth signing for 110 million dollars? even if their batting average when they signed with the team was only a mere .260, The playes name is Carlos Beltran which to me and in my honest opinion was way to much. If he doesn't live up to each and every expectation of the team then they just wasted that much on 1 player whcih was stupid at the least.

I actually wasn't much of a baseball fan myself until about 6 years ago when I started playing fantasy. It just makes the grind of baseball's long season more enjoyable I think.
I'm not sure I'll ever completely "get it" .. but at least I know how many quarters there are!

WTG Cling!! and hey with the Astros riding a 4 game win streak and crushing the ball as of late anything could happen and push my team to the top :) But like i always say anything can happen in baseball but I'm hoping for only the best thing will happen with them at this point!!!!! The way i see it is there's only a 35 or 37 point differene in between us at the bottom to you 3 or 4 at the top lol

One can only hope!!! I don't have any high hopes. I know baseball and love the game but as for this fantasy thing, I'm lost as to how it works. I just shuffle my players around and hope they do well. :))
The Indians look pretty good so far this year which we can only hope they continue hitting the ball like they are. But with the way the manager of the Astros is using Roy Oswalt right now he may not last. So far he's thrown well over a 100 pitches in his last 2 or so starts which i hope they don't over use him especially when they'll need him down the stretch IF they don't get Roger Clemens back.
But hey i love baseball no matter what happens so the best of luck everyone in our league!!!!

it was ok for the most parts of it. It was more about how he gets prepared for each game and him complaining aboutg how he's had enough of reporters ad so forth like we haven't already heard him say that at least a million times.
If Bond's is that fed up with it he should just do what Jeff bagwell's doing and Be a man about the whole stuff and just retire instead of crying and whining about how reporters and everyone are bashing his name into the ground.

When I was on vacation a few years back, we were driving through Houston and decided to take in a game. It happened to be inter-league play at the time and I got to see the Indians play there. Nice stadium. It was still Enron Field at the time. :))
I have'nt had the chance to check out their new stadium yet which we use to goto the Astrodome back in the 80's to watch them. The first time i walked into that dome it was huge but we always set at the field level which i was to chicken to go up to the nose bleed seats lol
and i still can't get over how fast they built the new cardinals stadium.well im headed back to turbo 21 to play for a while or auto for a while lol

Greetings all. I'm Denny, SI's roommate. The reason you haven't seen SI around much is because he was in a car accident; the accident was not his fault. He did suffer what they classified as a mild-to-moderate concussion, as well as three spinal injuries (two slightly bulging disks in the L-spine, 2 compressed disks in the C-spine, and a syrinx in the T-spine). Nothing life-threatening, but he's got the whole physical therapy thing, and is off of work. Plus, he's working through the whole trauma/depression period.
He asked me to take over his team for him while he's recuperating. For those of you that know his Pogo SN, I'm also going to be taking care of his badges for him. Anyone that knows him knows that he's a workaholic, so this whole life change has just sapped him dry. He's a stubborn one, though, so we're not worried. We just need to be there for him & let him work through it.
