Title: Avatars
Post by: Mayhem on July 20, 2006, 12:02:35 AM
We have made some changes to the forum in regards to the avatars.

If your avatar is larger than 150x150, could you please resize it to those dimensions (or smaller)?

The forum will no longer accept anything larger than 150x150. Thanks!

Special thanks to EyeCu for all her hard work with this matter. She was able to find some information for us so we were able to modify the actual source code to make this all work.

No more scroll bars!  O0

They can be 150x150 in size, so yes they can be over 100 pixels.

There are places all over the net where you can snag a pic ... OR .. if you know something you want you can go to the request/pickup thread. We have some incredibly talented (Im not one of em) people on the board who enjoy helping out!

I don't think anyone pays for them here that I know of. I just do google seachs in the image section for mine. Save it to your computer and then host it with imageshack.

Just type in something you might be looking for.

Thank you ,Tara.  I found one I want to use but am clueless about how to set up a web page so I can include this.  It says I have to link to the avatar using http:// etc.  I thought perhaps I could just browse my computer, locate it and include it that way.  It's amazing how much I have forgotten since leaving the tech support area of AOL.  Actually, it's amazing I have ANY brain left after doing tech support for AOL.  :ooo  LOL  Oh well.... I'll keep plugging along.  :::sighs:::

Use imageshack or photobucket to host it. That way you dont need to make an entire page, and they will give you a URL to link it into your profile.

You have to save it to your computer first. It would probably be easier and faster if you saved it to your computer or email Homer with what you want. I'm sure he wouldn't mind fixing you up.  Then after he places it in your profile you can go look at how he does it and you will know then.  homer@pogocheats.net

Homer, I went and looked at the coding you used.  When I did it myself, the code that I C&P'd from imageshack had
[ ]'s in them.  Is that why it wasn't working?  Should I have removed those?

Not homer, but...

For avatars, you need to use the http code that Imageshack gives you...
For signatures, you need to use the (//) tags!

I use photobucket and they give you the option of the http and img right below the pic!

Good luck...and have fun playing!

When I used imageshack, the code had the []'s through out it.  I left them in when I copy and pasted the code here so I wonder if that was the problem.  If not, then I have no idea why it didn't work because I didn't alter it at all.
Thanks for the information!

You copy and pasted the wrong URL

You needed this URL which is the last one in the list https://img100.imageshack.us/img100/3816/stinkerbelleg8.jpg

You can not use image tags in your avatar only when inserting pics in your signature or message.

I found a gif image I want to use as my avatar. I'm having terrible time getting it there.. >:((

I see above where someone says Homer is nice and if we just email him the image, he will take care of it for us.. :pp

I did this once before, but that was before my brain wandered far from my body.

I'm hoping Homer will do this for me..if so, thanks very much and if not, I still thank ya.  ;) I know you are a busy admin.  Appreciate it.

You can just go to imageshack and upload and resize it to 150x150 or smaller. Then take the info that looks just like an URL (should end in .gif) and copy it. Go to your profile and paste the URL under personalized picture

Nope 150x150. Which is good because in the past if it was wider than 130 pixels you would get a scroll bar and wouldn't be able to view the whole image anyways. It will save me from the work of resizing avatars which I don't mind doing but we have a few excellent members who have helped with that issue.
