Hey ev1, I got this comp a few months back. I have babie'd this thing to make sure nothing bad happens to it, but I have run into a problem. When I go to clean my comp desk, I have noticed alot of dust. It seems like it is going into the fan on the side of the tower, because I see dust on the fan. Our house is very dusty. I have moved the comp away from the air vent and even put a filter in the vents in our living room. I try to wipe it with a clean cloth daily so it doesn't affect the comp's performance. This is getting old though. Does anyone have suggestions as to what I should do so that the dust does not get into the tower. Thanks!
I use an Oreck air cleaner in my house. That helps some.
Other than that I suggest some Head & Shoulders :)))

lmao!
We do have an air purifier too, that we run night and day because of my sons asthma.
I also have it in a comp cabinet that shuts, could that be harmful too?

Only if you leave it on with the doors shut. It could overheat if you do that.
ok really I did not know that. Thanks Homer. I usally shut it at night, thinking it would help with the dust. O0
You can shut it just make sure the power is off.
I usally leave my auto running at night. lol!

I would leave the doors open then. You definitely don't want to fry your pc.

Your welcome.
this sounded like a tv commercial LOL or those infomercials at nite. LOL My house gets dusty too, I have purifiers n stuff but yeah always gets dusty. It is always great to remove the casing from ur tower and just clean the dust that you find (mind u with the power off) it's pretty simple if you know how to use a screw driver and able to lift a tower box on to a table for easier access and viewing. I think it does not matter how clean ur house it, ur pc fans are gonna build up with dust and it's just best to be safe and open ur pc about every 2 or 3 months and just do a quick clean up. That way u know it's gonna run great. As for that tower in a closed space, it's not a good idea. Especially if you tend to leave the door shut. It looks much nicer but to keep ur pc running at a cool safe temperature...it's best to store it either on a nice clean dry floor with lots of room for air or even up off the ground sumway safe and not able to topple over. Those pc's can get very hot on there own....*winx* My first pc burnt a few months back, I was sure it was nice an clean but I was taken back when I saw just how dusty it got in there. :;'

OK great thanks Bams! I will do that. O0
Another way too Ms is that if ya want to keep it from heating up so much is place a small fan and let it blow on the tower. A comp I use to own always got way too hot and the little fan solved that problem. Then again I will NEVER own a Gateway comp.
Since the weathers nice, she could always prop a window up with the tower... :,

Thanks Luna! I just need to keep the door open at night so it wont over heat. I think it should be fine. But I will keep that in mind. Thanks!

We actually owned 3 of them and each one of them really was bad. I kept having to bring it in to have it fixed. The sound card always went bad, fans wouldnt run half the time..list is too long. I finally took a sledge hammer, went outside and beat the crud out of them..lol

I am not a fan of Compaqs - they are too hard n difficult to upgrade an everything is just built a sort of way that gives you a pain in da butt if you try to get in there n change anything. I don't recommand anyone to buy a compaq LOL

Ok thanks! I will get some next time I am out. O0
i use it all the time works fantastic air in a can lol mines called dust off ""
Hey Ms. B.... my exhusband had extreme asthma and allergies (he was a bubble boy as a baby heh) and we had to take some extreme measures in a few places we lived some things i learned ... lots of dust is abnormal for any house. If you have a forced air heating system you may need to have your whole system cleaned (couple hundred dollers by a pro ) we also installed these relativelivey cheap filters on each of the openings where the hot air shot out as well as replaced the furnace filter at least 3-4 times a year (most people dont change theirs for years). Also our naturapath said to run a humidifier daily to keep certain moisture in the air but not enough to turn your place into a sauna ya know what i mean? just enough to weigh down the particles (dust) in the air . The humidifier a couple of hours a day did wonders for my ex's breathing at night (we ran it at night). windows open just draw in more dust so if you can live with a air conditioner and get the fresh air when you go out all the better. no amount of wiping will get rid of the dust untill you impede it from floating around in the first place. hope some of this helps.
oops and i forgot lol... bounce works great for wiping on surfaces it just repels the dust from sticking ... i wipe my desk moniter edges and computer case with the stuff :)
anyways as i said hes my ex lol i did my 13 years hard time now im off for good behaviour %% :)))
Thanks Jodi! Thats funny about you ur good behavior. We have had to do alot of the stuff you suggested because my son has really bad asthma, but nothing has helped. We will be moving sson becasue of some personal problems so hopefully this will help. Thanks again! O0
