I can tell you what Homer and Chummy are going to tell you... "As long as you use all that free internet security stuff, you will have problems."

You are getiing what is called a false positive.

If I were you I wouldn't leave internet security up to your ISP. They throw those "free" internet security packages at you only as a way to entice you to subscribe to their service. Remember...sometimes you get what you pay for and free is not always best. Just a little friendly advice. O0

If you want a decent security program that doesn't bog down your computer or interfere with Pogo and the autos, get Trend Micro.

I use this and so does Homer. It's the best you can get and you don't have to turn it off and on like the other ones!  :^*

I use Trend Mocro on all my computer, except the new laptop.  It came with MCGagme and I don't care for it too much.

My nod32 subscription ran out weeks ago so i thought i'd give mico trend a try. i got the internet security pro version. i tried installing but this is what happens...
it says it needs to update my vista(which it is up to date btw)so i click ok(pic1). then it says it does not appy to my version(pic2). i click ok and everything disappears. each time i try it does this. i would love to finish installing this.
anyone know a solution or why it is doing this?

Not sure but it sounds like it wants to do a windows update. You probably are nmissing some critical updates.

From google (and it may not be your issue) I found this

windows update to sort compatibility error with trend micro (and other things)
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932246

also and I don't understand it fully, if you have 'leaked' updates on your system, by which i assume they mean not from a reputable source, then you will get this error.

There is quite a bit on it around techy forums with conflicting advice on how to deal, from reformating, to deleting any windows updates and installing direct from microsoft windows vista

One final thing, not all trend micro versions are compatable with vista.

edited:thanks Peevishpout! i just saw your post after i posted this. i will look and see what i can find there.the only updates that are ever done for me are done automatically from windows. maybe it's just not compatible. i will try to download a different version and see what happens.

You need to click custom on the windows update site and look at the specific software and hardware updates.  Windows by default only downloads critical updates, so even if you have the latest updates it doesnt mean you actually have the updates you need.

eg
I'm having trouble with my bt home hub so I changed it back to my netgear router (which I only took out about 6 months ago), I have all the updates or so I thought.  Looking on the custom page I had an update for the netgear about 4 months ago.
My hubby has vista, so we checked his updates, and low and behold even thou Vista said he was completely updated, there were software updates for his wireless card there.

i am embarrassed to ask this but can you send me the site addy please? i was going to reply in PM but darned if i could find a reply button. lol
the site i found didn't have a custom button so i am sure i am at the wrong one.

also i wonder if my IE is off in some way. i am a FF user but when i clicked on ''get updates for more products'' in my windows update it opened an IE site, but before it could finish it froze. i tried 3 times and each time it did that. maybe that is whats messing my install up?

Sorry but I had gone to bed, I'm in the UK but I see that Homer answered you. :)

On vista (or on ours anyway) the word custom isnt there its the word 'optional', sorry for the confusion.

Incidentelly the update that I posted before isnt in hubby's update list, so assume that like XP this is an fix/patch for specific problems and not an automatic or optional update.

Hope you both get it sorted.

ps you can't reply to pm's unless you have 25 posts  :(

Thanks to you both <3

so far i am where i was but thats ok. if i can't get the support staff to help me then that tells me a lot and i'd rather get my $70.00 back. i waited almost 2 hours yesterday for a rep from the live chat to help me but they never came. i'll wait a few days for them to respond to my mail and in the meantime i'll do some more research.
i'll update the post if i get this resolved incase someone else comes across this problem too.

after alllllllllllll day of live chat and emailing back and forth to the support of micro trend i have the program installed. sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  geez i am exhausted lol

the instructions i kept getting from them was to go to the INSTALLED program and disable it then uninstall. problem with that is it would NEVER install lol

i ended up going into the setup file and deleting the hotfix all together. rebooted and it installed perfectly!

glad thats done! i need a treat after that! bbq22.gif

You can try a system restore but I'm not sure that will help.

When you go to buy it check with the geeks but you may only have to buy the upgrade cd which is much cheaper than the full version
