Violence Follows Bhutto Killing

LOS ANGELES (KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO)  -- Violence has erupted across Pakistan following the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto. An attacker shot her twice, then blew himself up, killing at least 20 people.  She died a short time later at a hospital where supporters smashed glass doors and stoned cars, chanting slogans against President Pervez Musharraf.

U.S. Senator Arlen Spector was in Islamabad at the time of the killing, and says he went onto the streets to pay his respects to Bhutto. Spector also says Bhutto was vital to U.S. policy with nuclear-capable Pakistan.

President Musharraf blames Islamic extremists for the killing and declared three days of mourning.

Pakistani opposition leader Nawaz Sharif says his party will boycott next month's parliamentary elections.

Critics of Musharraf are saying he was complicit in the killing, at best by gross neglegence towards Bhutto's security for which Musharraf has said the government would be responsible, and at worst by design.

Musharraf has also been targeted himself by al-Qaeda-related assasination attempts

Well, that's civilized.  If you don't like the opposition, kill 'em.

This is sad...I guess things aren't ever going to get better.

This also caused our gas prices to go up here today. I'll be glad when we don't have to use the crap. It's a shame that someone gets killed in another country and within hours the gas that is already here costs more.  ::)
