So here I was, happily surfing the web and minding my own business when ::Poof:: my internet connection was gone, and I couldn't find my SSID on the available list, nothing. So, panicky at the thought of losing my main connection to the outside world, I called my ISP and first thing the happy technician asked me was "Are you running Vista on the wireless computer?" Sure enough I am, says I. Anyway... yet another Vista quirk. After so long, for whatever reason, it decides it doesn't like your connection and stops recognizing it. So, I had to go to the main, hard wired computer and re-set the connectivity settings. Quick, painless... but just wanted to let people know what to do if it happens to you too. Make another SSID and key code... ::voila:: good to go again.
Happened to me about a month ago. Had to make a new connection. !@#$

Unfortunately. Eventually the wireless card blew and in the shop it had to go.
I have a question. I am Vista phobic. I mean, I truly hate it. Not because I don't know how to use it, but because my hubby and son, who both have master's degrees in specialized computer software writing, say that Vista is one of the poorest programs MS ever came out with.
Likewise, I find IE 7 to be buggy. When I find something that slows me down and doesn't work optimally, I take it off.
Will there soon come a time when ALL new mid to high end computers are preloaded with Vista? Is it hard to remove and can it be completely removed? I had a downloaded add on, which had some but not all Vista components, so I was able to take my crap off.
I don't want to make movies, I don't want to share photos, I don't want to do anytihng special with my iPod. Computers are for computing and for Pogo, :)).
In short, can a system pre-loaded with Vista be modified to delete Vista? I could ask my hubby or son but they are pretty crabby about everything MS.
One is a Firefox fiend, the other is into Linux and another propietary open source which he has a special card to connect to through his corporation's mainframes.
Thanks for any help. I will go ahead and buy a new notebook without Vista now if I can find one.. I don't plan on using Vista until MS has it ironed out, which will probably make it obselete by that time.
That reminds me: Hubby is an Apple user, when he has a choice. Can the auto programs run on a brand new Mac which uses a very blended OS?

That time has come :( - All new computers are loaded with Vista unless you order a computer without anything installed. My son bought a Dell with Ubuntu (linux based) installed but he is so anti bill gates I am sure he knew where to get it from his base of friends. But there is a way you can leave Vista behind on your computer if you have the room. You can "partition" in your system - one of the few things that Vista does well. And then add XP back.
I did this on my work computer because I have a couple of programs I wrote for auction management that will not work with Vista and I am not going to pay MS to include my program. I wrote the programs to help my handicapped hands deal with the bugs in XP when I was a beta tester for most of XP's downloads. Disabled beta testers were not used for Vista. This last statement speaks volumes for MS and how they view the rest of the world.
I would not remove Vista because it would probably mess up any warranty if there were hardware problems at any time.
