When I was in the 3rd grade, we had to memorize this poem, and to this day I still remember it!
In Search of El Dorado
Gaily bedight,
A gallant knight,
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of El Dorado.
But he grew old-
This knight so bold-
And o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like El Dorado.
And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow-
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be-
This land of El Dorado?"
"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied-
"If you seek for El Dorado!
And when we started home schooling our kids, this is the poem I had them memorize as well. While I LOVED learning this poem, they accused me of tormenting them. LOL And while I still remember it, I asked them if they recall the El Dorado poem and they said "what?" LOL
Just felt like sharing LOL
