Post by: robbie93 on October 08, 2008, 09:05:53 PM
Aston Villa   have been drawn in Group F alongside Hamburg, Ajax, Slavia Prague and Zilina - with a mouth-watering home clash with the Dutch giants first up.

Each team plays two matches at home and two away, with the top three teams from each group qualifying for the last 32.

Martin O'Neill's men play Ajax at Villa Park on October 23 before travelling to Slavia Prague on November 6.

We then face Zilina at Villa Park on December 4 before an exciting away day at Hamburg on December 17.

We will not compete on the third matchday.

Villa's Opponents:

Hamburg

Hamburg won the European Cup in 1983 - beating Juventus 1-0 in the final - and also boast six German titles.

They have won the German Cup three times and the German League Cup twice.

They have qualified twice for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League in 2000-2001 and in 2006-2007.

Hamburg, who play at the HSH Nordbank Arena, are currently three points clear at the top of the Bundesliga under the leadership of Martin Jol.

Ajax

Ajax won the European Cup three times in a row - between 1971 and 1973 - and added another one in 1995.

In 1972, they completed The Treble by winning the Dutch Eredivisie, KNVB Cup and the European Cup.

They are also one of only three clubs to have won all three major European trophies - the European Cup, the European Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Cup.

They are currently managed by Marco Van Basten and a familiar face in the Premier League is former Charlton winger Dennis Rommedahl.

Slavia Prague

Slavia Prague have won 14 titles - several Czech cups and the Mitropa Cup (Central European Cup) in 1938.

Their most recent success was winning the Gambrinus Liga in the 2007-08 season.

Slavia also won the Gambrinus Liga in the 1995-96 season, when they also advanced to the UEFA Cup semi-finals.

In 2007, they qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in their history.

Zilina

Zilina are one of the most successful teams in the Slovak top division, having won four titles and finished runners-up twice in the last seven years.
