Wow, Survivor starts this Thurs. and I haven't seen one commercial preview.
I seen a commercial today for it, can't wait..just hope its good this time & not boring popcorn2.gif
Starts tonite and Jeff's blog had this tidbit - only posting the first part which had been seen in the ads because the rest had spoilers:
<i>"We're trying to set a tone this season right off the bat about the importance of first impressions and we've got an opening twist that is going to speak to that. This season is going to open up with about a four hour trek to their respective camps. But before they start on their trek we're going to ask them to vote one person out of each tribe and the words I'll use will speak to the notion that maybe they're out of the game, they're not sure." </i>
It sounds like the powers that be at Survivor have seen that the viewers want more than just the predictable and I am really looking forward to this season cuz had it not been for Bob's fake idols last year I would have fallen asleep during the show.

She should have at least understood the reference to "lone" since she was singled out right from the start. That is the thing that didn't click with Carolina. Right from the start they were given this gift of knowing how important first impressions are and she didn't use it. Since it was the first episode and there were so many personalities we probably didn't see how really annoying she got in 24 hrs. I am rooting for Brendan only because he has the same name as my grandson and we rarely see this name on tv. How lame is <b>that</b> for first impressions!

Rumor on and Exile Island twist
QuoteExile Island is desolate. It is a big sand dune. This year two people will go to Exile Island. The winning tribe will chose somebody from the losing tribe, that person will then chose somebody from the winning tribe. So there will always be two people out there. When they get out there they'll find two eggs, two choices. They'll have to figure out amongst themselves who gets which one. They break them open and inside one will be nothing, inside the other will be a note that says, "here's a clue to the location of the hidden immunity idol." Nobody except them will know it is back at their camp. Two, you also have power. You can decide to go back to your original tribe or you can mutiny and go back to the other tribe. So we're hoping to get some mutinies this season.

QuoteQuoting from SBU soccer coach fired | News-Leader.com | Springfield News-Leader Matt Baker
Time taken for TV show not explained early on.
"Survivor" contestant Ben Wade might survive the Brazilian Highlands, but he couldn't get through his day job.
Less than a week after Wade premiered on the CBS reality TV show, Southwest Baptist University fired Wade as its head women's soccer coach.
Wade said Tuesday that he plans to pursue an acting career.
"I'm going to be the next big thing on the big screen," Wade said in a phone interview.
SBU athletic director Brent Good said the school bought out the remaining three months of Wade's contract because Wade did not tell Good that he left the team at mid-season to be on television.
"He said he was going to be gone for a week," Good said. "And the week went beyond that, which went beyond that, which went beyond that."
Good said Wade left the team on Oct. 22 — with two weeks left in the season — to go to the Brazilian Highlands to shoot the 18th season of the hit reality show. He returned to campus eight weeks later, on Dec. 17.
Wade said Good informed him of the decision Monday. He said the news was a surprise and that he hopes to continue his television career.
Quoten a follow-up story, Ben told the News-Leader's Matt Baker that how he came across on the show had nothing to do with his firing. "I'm going to be made out to be a hero. It was just the timing of me going out there and all that, not the way I was perceived."
During our conversation in Brazil, Ben told me that he had not revealed where he was going. Instead, he lied his soccer team by telling them he was getting extensive tests for cancer.
Ben also told me that the "team is in shambles right now" because he left them without his presence. He also said, "I am phenomenal at manipulating people. ... I manipulate my assistant coaches. My highest-paid assistant coach right now is getting $5,000 a year. I have a staff of six. It's the biggest coaching staff in the NCAA. Nobody has six coaches. I have these girls come and pay $20,000 a year to come and play for my school and not give them a dime of scholarship, there's others that I do. I'm awesome at manipulating."
Watch out for this guy.
Ben used cancer as his reason for leaving his job to go play Survivor? Oh brother, you laid a huge pile of karma. That whole Outwit, Outplay and Outlast is part of the show - not real life.

i missed the first part of the show last nite..just who is Taj's husband?
A player with the NFL, who retired a few years ago. Clearly, money is not an issue for Taj - she justs wants to do Survivor. With other peeps knowing her financial picture is "better" than other players', they think she is less deserving to win the prize.
Taj is also a Grammy-nominee for her soul group SWV ("Sisters With Voices") so she has already had her 15 mins of fame and is trying to extend it a few more minutes.

He owns a restaurant in Ohio and has investments in real estate and other businesses; he also hosts his own television show.

How many times do we have to watch the same type of challenges? bad mood.gif
Coach dubbing Tyson 'assistant coach' was the LMAO moment of the entire season. Who wouldn't want to be assistant to someone who tries to lick women, uses his eyes to tell people to move things and started the whole season with the rattiest hair? If he wasn't already fired for lying about going on the show with his 'cancer tests', he should be investigaged by the University's Soccer Association for inappropriate behavior towards women. Probst said on his blog that Coach is the most incredible character they have ever had. This from someone who experienced Johnny Fairplay, so there must be even more to come.
I don't like Coach's attitude either... on the other hand, he sure does make the show entertaining. The assistant coach moment with Tyson, and then also in tribal council where he argued with his tribe about who the leader should be. Lots more interesting than last season, to say the least. Tara, I do think a lot of the challenges are starting to look about the same. A few players race around to collect pieces, and then they have to put a puzzle together. I prefer the stamina type challenges they normally reserve until towards the end of the season where people stand in the same position for hours just to win the challenge, especially when they offer things like food to give up your chance at immunity.
I don't care if she doesn't need the money, I am rooting for Taj. She's built like a brick ****house and performs well at challenges (at least so far), she is fun, friendly, and with Brendan has come up with a great strategy for an alliance between tribes that will last through the merge... that is, if Jeff hasn't completely outed them after that last reward challenge. Also love JT, he seems very valuable to his team so far... can't wait to see if he sticks with Stephen through the game, or ends up ditching him for stronger players.

I am missing the 'eat or drink something yucky' challenges that I have a feeling are past tense. Nothing makes them feel more like a Survivor than having grub-breath. I also think they now get ointments for bug bites and if you look in the water source, it is branded Aquafina. Sort of a Survivor Lite feel to it now.
Well, Aquafina is a municpal water source, so they are roughing it by not getting actual spring water.

You are missing a good season too. This year the people who pick the contestants did it right with lots of characters and there are twists and turns all over the place. Not to mention Brazil has weather where it does not sprinkle - it just downpours. Or you have the sun with 115º being the norm during the day. I think last season ruined it for people. This year we have people who have learned from the other seasons - we even have a fake hidden immunity idol being held.
You're right, it definitely is better than last season but it's getting predictable, too. When that guy (Joe?) found the fake immunity idol, he should have questioned it. It looked fake to me. If he saw other seasons in which a fake was made, it should have been a red flag to him. The folks are definitely more interesting than the last group.
When I looked up Joe yesterday on the internet it described him as a true texan and savvy businessman. He was able to think about the others who had been to Exile and if they might have hooked up an alliance but he trotted off in front of the one person who had been to Exile in an obvious look for the immunity idol. He should have picked a better time if he was so savvy. Even Jeff Probst has said that this season is one of his all time favorites and since he was so close to leaving for good, that must mean something.

And what you want and want you'll get will be a differenet story giggle2.gif
I hope Joe will be ok. I guess the fake idol that Taj made has gone to waste.... where did Joe hide it?

He hid it in that hole in his leg.

I wondered how long they were gonna let him go before they did something, that leg looked nasty........if they hadn't done anything next season would be Survivor Lawsuit.
I saw an interview on some Reality Show roundup that was talking to some of the more obscure Survivors and one of them spent almost 3 years trying to get rid of the bugs that had gotten into her skin and laid eggs. I love my creature comforts and when I see a lady who has not shaved her armpits for a few days, I know I am not going to last long trying to do a challenge while keeping my arms down. As nice as that hidden idol is - it is not say.... a badge! I actually want to see Coach each week. He is comic relief at such an extreme..... true maestro in his own mind.
i agree....i find this show would be very dull without him....hes a legend in his own mind

In the words of Meatloaf '2 outa 3 ain't bad'. Unfortunately with Sierra it is the wrong 2.
I was sooooo sure that the dragonslayer was gone this week. Not only was it a blindside for them it was a blindside for me. I also loved how Stephen explaining how exactly he got the Immunity Challenge - it was so nerdy and made the others realize he is actually playing the game. And I thought it fun that Taj's hubby thought her bug bitten, stinky body was sexy.
stephens description on how he figured it out was harder to understand than doing the puzzle...lol.

That was what was so funny - he was nerdy even in his trying to explain how easily he arrived at a way to do the challenge.
I like that they all got to spend time with their families but I am still trying to figure out that when you are missing your family so much, Coach chose to have an assistant coach - or was that actually a family member. Or maybe someone he rescued while being held prisoner in the Amazon (even Jeff does not believe Coach).
I agree. I thought that Coach was gone for sure! I know he lends entertainment value but when he told his asst. coach/visiting friend that he was ruling the game, I thought I couldn't wait for his ARSE to be booted out. He now knows that his time is over... the seconds are ticking.... and he knows that Debbie betrayed him. I don't like that man - and I like almost everyone. Almost.
maybe coach couldnt get a family member to come for a visit cause they are too embarrassed being around him...
I can't stand the man.....but unfortunately some of what he says is true, just which parts are up for debate. If you google, you will read about his kayak adventures, and there was a book written on him. In the end though I see him as a major manipulator....here is a new story on Coach Ben Wade.

I have been a professional musician in So Calif for over 40 years and after reading the article and going to a California Musicians group I have to believe the symphony conductor story although it does not mention that the "symphony hall" is actually a Methodist Church. There are thousands of "conductors" of musical groups all over so it could happen.
But quoting the article:<i> "Coach claims he set the world record (6,000 plus miles) for kayaking when he took his trip that included the famous Amazon adventure. Jeff Moag, editor of Canoe & Kayak Magazine says, "I can't confirm whether he paddled 6,000 miles solo or even if there are small cannibalistic people in Peru, although I doubt it. I can tell you that Paul Caffyn kayaked more than 9,000 miles in 1980 and 1981. So, no record." </i>
Just made me want to go to Peru and give some dental hygene to the small cannibalistic's of Peru. You really punch my buttons when you start lying to me and had they sat me in the same camp with him I would have practiced my ancient art of smothering someone while asleep, "Dragonslayer!" I would be assured of all the votes on the jury.
I'm looking forward to tonight's show. hi11.gif
Me to Squid I am so ready. tumbsup.gif
happy21.gif Santa may be a little too excited. giggle2.gif
mumbojumbo.gif What a show! Loved it that they finally took out Coach. His drama was getting to be more than I could handle. diablo.gif
So long Dragon Slayer. tease.gif
The slayer was a draggin. I pity the people at the Ponderosa - at least they don't have too long to have to put up with him. The finale is this Sunday and I am really looking forward to it. My neighbors have a Survivor Party every year pot luck style and this year one of my Brazilian neighbors is bringing some "native" delights. I wish they would give some info on past players. I would love to know about Ozzy or what Rupert is up to now.
I never pick a winner 6_6.gif but I did not want coach so I am okay blowkisses.gif
Goodbye, Coach. I am so glad he's gone. He was so irritating.
I think JT will win
I think and am hopeing so too Squid. Just scared to pull for him because like I said I am not good at picking the winners rolleyes.gif
mumbojumbo.gif I picked JT to win from the very start, my honey picked Brendan. mumbojumbo.gif
I want him to win too, but I got to thinking last night after the show went off.
It's now 2 girls + 2 guys, I think the girls might say hey why do we have to give it to the guys and decide to fight for it themselves. undecided.gif

I totally agree Who...Taj is not stupid by any means. I think they just might do that, 'cause JT is awesome when it comes to the challenges. He zipped through that last one like HE designed it. That boy is amazing. undecided.gif
Interesting.... I just don't know if Taj will allow herself to "betray" the boys. I know it's a game and lots of cash is at stake but I think Taj would be offended by her own betrayal of the boys. If Taj and Erinn vote for..... let's say JT. The boys are going to vote for Erinn. That's a tie. Doesn't the tie get broken by the player who has gotten more votes during the season? That would be Erinn. Am I looking at this wrong?
Inky it usually comes down to the final three and then whoever wins that challenge decides who will sit beside them in the final roasting by the jury, where they have to answer questions from the jury as to why they should get thier vote...etc.
I hope this makes sense. embarrassed.gif

Hmmm.... I'm thinking (which can be dangerous) giggle2.gif does a tie get broke that way or I sorta remember something about a tie being broken by seeing which of the two can build a fire the fastest to burn thru a string above it?? I can be so totally wrong and wouldn't put it past myself embarrassed.gif but I remember that from some show somewhere hysterical.gif
If it came down to a fire ya know J.T would build it first, but then again Erinn has been to exile a few times so she can build a fire too.... Geez I ALWAYS second guess myself footinthemouth.gif You should see me shop for a pair of shoes panic button.gif help.gif I either can't decide and buy the 3 pair I like the most or I give up after an hour and a half in the store and walk out with nothing. white flag.gif
Erinn did fire only once - her last sprint at Exile Island left her without fire or any shelter out in the rain. This was why she was so angry at Coach for making light of her time there. I picked JT from the beginning but secretly wanted Brendan cuz he shares a name with my grandson. I would not be sad to see Taj win either cuz she paid her dues back when they had that water challenge and showed off her wrestling skills. But the nerd in me would love to see a nerd win and Stephen has gone from this awkward, guy who made me laugh when he runs to a real competitor (who still makes me laugh when he runs).
adding an interview on tvguide.com of Coach (in case anyone already forgot how irritating he can be):

He's whack-a-doo. giggle2.gif
He is soooo out in the ozone, someone will probably give him his own reality show no-no.gif
Congratulations, JT. He's a nice guy, played a good and honorable game. I suppose he deserved it. My question is.... is Survivor simply turning into a popularity contest? Behave well socially (and maybe win a challenge or two) and the win is yours! Stephen was likeable enough, I suppose, but I think he shot himself in the foot with his responses to the jury. For a smart guy, he sure flubbed it in the 11th hour.
As I think back, the winners I've seen (I haven't watched EVERY season) have all been very popular, not necessarily strategic, logistic and big thinkers.
Slap myself silly slap1.gif slap1.gif I forgot to watch 6_6.gif

I don't think of Richard Hatch or Parvati as being popular with anyone while playing. While he wasn't my pick at the beginning (I picked Brendan) I think JT played the smartest game. Now that I think of it, he may have thrown some of the challenges just to stop having a bigger circle on his back. He did outwit and outplay to outlast. Gotta hand it to him. He did it all with his southern drawl and a big ole smile.
If you missed out on the events you can go to CBS.com and watch them online. I fell asleep during a lot of it and only woke at the end so I am going to do just that and catch the finale of Desperate Housewives too.
DLL thanks I will make sure i watch it. Of course I would rather go and spend 3 hours girl5.gif with Squid giggle2.gif
by jt taking steven to the end,he kept his integrity throughout..whereas steven planned on throwing him under the bus if he would have won immunity...sounded like he and steven were going in to business though,at the end of the show..coach looked so much better with some tanning and hair coloring...
I think Coach was starving to death near the end. He was sallow and totally spent. He also had other medical issues, I s'pose.
There were many seasons that I missed so I don't know about those folks, DLL. I'm sure you're right.
