Does anyone know how to back up email in Windows Mail in Vista? I am finding all kinds of info on OutLook and OutLook Express, but nothing at all on Windows Mail in Vista.
Just load up Window Mail and go to : File / Export / Messages
Then click on : 'Microsoft Windows Mail' and choose 'Next' and follow the prompts the rest of the way tumbsup.gif

I did that, and I'm trying to put it on my Memory Key which has plenty of room, but it's only wanting to move one message at a time. I need to move the whole folder which has dozens of messages. It also is doing something weird about making a folder to move it to.... I do that and then it tells me that there's an error.
Any other suggestions?
I just got it to save to a file on my desktop, now I am going to drag that file to my memory key and hopefully that will work!
You can try this (not promising it's going to work tho - It does with Outlook Express)
Navigate to the folder : Users / <username> / AppData / Local / Microsoft / Windows Mail
Look for the folder called : Local Folders
Copy that entire folder to your Memory Key - It has 'every' custom folder and emailed message(s) stored in there.
Then when you go to Windows Mail on your new computer, select "Import" and then select "Microsoft Windows Mail 7" and it should prompt you to choose the folder store location on your Memory Key to import your messages.
I can get this far Navigate to the folder : Users / <username> / There is no AppData that I can see and trying to copy to my memory key the way I said doesn't seem to be working well. I read something that said you can't save to a key, only burn to a CD which makes NO sense to me. I'll keep playing with it and checking here in case you find out anything else. Thanks so much, you're the best! embrace.gif
I found AppData by searching, but there was nothing in the Local folder for Windows Mail or anything... anyway, the file finally copied to my Memory key and I was able to read the emails from there as well.
I was kinda nervous because it said it was copying them without the properties, but hey, they are readable so that's all I care about.
Thanks for your help!!!!
