Post by: Homer on February 10, 2009, 03:40:21 PM
I need help finding the name of a pasta. It is shaped like elbow macaroni but it corkscrews. Anyone know what it's called?

gemelli?

Nope. It's looks just like elbows but it twists 2-3 turns to give it a corkscrew look. Even has the hole running through the middle like regular elbows

Homer, I think Rotini noodles are what you want. They are spiral shaped. They are great with meat and sauces. LOVE them.  turkey4.gif

This is what I make Chicken Fusilli with - the corkscrew type of fusilli. First ever saw it at Disneyland but I have to say that it is usually in a box rather than a bag at the store.

I had it in a restaurant once and I just think these noodles are much better. They tend to interlock and suck up the cheese much better than regular elbows

Cavatappi, also called cellentani or double elbows, is macaroni formed in a spiral tube shape. It usually has rigati (lines or grooves on the outside surface of pasta).

Homer, I saw cellentani at Trader Joe's last summer but I would call first to see if they had it. I had trouble 2 weeks ago at the Vons trying to find boxed lasagne noodles. All they had were the prebaked ones and I was wanting to make spinach roll ups.
