I thought I would start a thread where we can post those things that we love or mean something special to us. Kids, Grandkids, Gardens, Pets... whatever floats your boat.
These are the first blooms from my Rose Garden and they are all from the same bush, Ria Samba. LOVE these because they change colors as they open.

I KNEW You were going to do that you boob-lover you! In my original post blurb I had even typed "Homer: We know you're a boob addict, no need to post any pictures for us." But I thought...nawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww, he wouldn't do that!
Modified to add: And another thing... This really pi$$e$ me off. I'm the pink set in the middle with the French Manicure and I told my husband in no uncertain terms NOT to post that picture on the internet.

Well, bams... as you can see by Homer's post it doesn't matter what it is you're fond of, just post a picture of it. By the end of Spring you'll all likely be tired of my roses, but I sure love them. And they smell sooo wonderful!
When planning our front flower bed, the one next to the walkway to the front porch, the key was fragrance. We picked low growing for near the walkway and taller ones for next to the house. When we open the front doors and windows, the breeze brings with it wonderful rose scents into the house.
U got mail hun LOL.
I wish I had the energy an health to build myself a garden. But with this back injury I jus can't hack it an then look after lil one. Maybe in time when I finally get moved, I'll be able to have that quality time to plant an relax afterwards.
Rite now all I get is my nice sweet liliacs but they never last long enuff.....but they are sure well worth it. Enjoy ur sweet garden an ur tags

Heck we will even help tend the garden. As long as we get to smell the fresh sent of the roses. Oh and Squid I get the chair up to the right in the corner. Of course I may have to bring my own end table so I can rest my pina colada. giggle2.gif

I love the berries and cream!
Today we get Lady Banks Climbing rose. These blossoms are only about 1 inch across and they grow in clusters of 5-9 blossoms. This bush is very cool in that the "canes" or "branches" aren't thick at all, they are more like the weeping part of a Weeping Willow and they grow 30-50 feet long. This one is on my back porch and when in full bloom will literally be covered in these yellow clusters, you will barely be able to see any green. Well, I'm hoping so anyway. This is the first time I've grown one in the shade.
OMG, it's beautiful. You really do have a gift for roses, I remember my attempt in San Francisco.... the results weren't nearly as good.
Each rose is beautiful. I can not wait to see the one tomorrow. They get prettier by the day.
Thanks, ladies. I'm glad you like them :)
This one is called China Doll. When it is fully blooming, the bush looks like a solid pink ball, no green at all. It stays low, 1-2 feet and the flowers on this are also only about 1" across.

Ok, so this is the real Chihuly. We get high winds here and the tag from Chihuly had blown off into the one called Easy Going, which I had listed here as Chihuly. Fortunately the growers put these tiny little metal tags on the base of the rose bushes so we were able to straighten it all out.
I give to you, the REAL Chihuly, named after American Glass Artist Dale Chihuly.

Today's rose isn't a rose... LOL It's an iris that my grandmother had at her home and my mother gave me a couple years ago. This is the first year it has bloomed here.
I've never seen white iris' and this one looks like tissue paper.
I left this one bigger so you can see that on some of the petals you can actually see through them.
I was gonna say looks like a wadded up kleenex....but very pretty indeed! Thank you for sharing Stinky blink.gif
And for those die-hard rose fans, here is one called FireMeidland. It gets only about a foot tall, but a few feet wide. It is not technically a carpet rose, but it acts as one. The flowers are very small but plentiful. It blooms a few times through the season.

Wow lucky you. We used to grow white irises at the nursery. The name was 'Immortality' and was a re-bloomer(flowered again in summer through fall). Hopefully that's the variety you got but either way a pretty flower

Today's rose, Electron, isn't an exceptional beauty, though the pink is striking. It blooms like a traditional rose, but what I find interesting is how the center part, the stamen area, grows in a swirl. My daughter got in as close as she could to try and show it.

Sometimes, places like Home Depot and Lowes will have discounted roses because the tags are missing or the plants are almost dead. Like I said though, roses are nearly impossible to kill where I live, so I take advantage of the lower priced, unidentified roses. Today's rose is one of those. We know it is lavender, and we know it's a hedge rose. After some research, we think it's called Simplicity by Jackson and Perkins. It is very fragrant, has the right petal count and the bush is quickly growing past 4' and it was planted at the end of the season a year ago.

You sure do have some pretty roses Ms. Stinky. I love roses. I think my favorite so far..if you can ever have a favorite rose, would be that pretty lavender one.

p.s. haaaaa i did spell check and i only missed one constanant "n". not too bad for an ole lady lol
For anyone interested, feel free to snag and use the rose pictures. They are all taken from my own personal garden. The only thing I ask is that you don't claim they are your own pictures because my daughter has decided to take a photography class and is planning to use some of them in her "portfolio"?
And if you do claim them as your own, I curse you! May aphids infest your garden and eat your buds!
Love your pictures keep em coming! You live in CA right? I'm here in zone 5 where it freezes and our roses die down and go dormant. What happens to yours? Sorry to sound naive but not familiar with plant habits in warm zones. popcorn2.gif

I do live in CA, in the high desert of SO CAL, but we have freezing every winter. My kids get up for an early morning religion class and during the winter it's usually in the 20's, and sometimes in the teens when they leave the house. We had a freak snow storm this past winter and got 7" of snow which is unusual for us. But we didn't lose a single rose bush...as a matter of fact, they seemed to thrive.
Today we have a minature rose bush called Rainbow's End. The flowers go from bud to bloom to dead in a matter of days, so they are only pretty for a day or so. The reason I personally like this rose is because of how showy the bush is from a distance when in full bloom. As the flower ages, the petals start to curl up on the ends and begin to look pointed.
This is about as attractive as a Rainbow's End flower gets. Again, it's the landscaping effect that has me enjoying this bush.

Have been loving your roses, dear. All of mine except for the miniature/tea roses have long bloomed in our strange weather. But I have this one pink rose that isn't remarkable except for the scent. It is called Cotton Candy and it smells like a floral perfume rather than a rose. I have it in a terra cotta planter right outside my front door and my grandson remarks on it as he leaves for school. Says 'that rose isn't good for your teeth'.

I'm glad you're enjoying them! There are so many roses by so many 'creators' that many of them tend to look similar. When my China Doll is in full bloom, it looks like a big ol' puff of cotton candy!
Here are a couple other links that are very helpful.
Well, the first is a link to a book I use all the time. We take this with us whenever we go rose shopping. It's full of information and great pictures. I got mine at Home Depot.

(The rose on the cover is a HotCocoa, I think. LOL)
Now this link is also amazing, loaded with information and it's all accessible online.

Of course there are many, many sites dedicated to stomping out unnecessary rose deaths, LOL, but these are the reference materials I use most.
I think I already posted the link to Weeks Roses and Jackson Perkins.

I have, so far, 96 bushes. Some are duplicates for landscaping balance, and some we loved so much that we have them both in front and back yards, so as far as how many unique bushes, 80ish I think.

I once made candied rose petals after finding the recipe online. It was interesting but time consuming and really unless you are going to have high end tea parties it was sort of useless for the average joe. Some of my roses have rose hips but I have no desire to make rose hip tea either. Almost all of mine are in planters because we had to put a handicapped ramp at the front of the house and I remember that time as sort of a Joan Crawford moment in my life. Your Rainbows End reminds me of Josephs Coat of Many Colors. I used to have that but during the construction I had it in a wheelbarrow for replanting and my stupid contractors thought it was to be recycled. It is one of those moments I can't get back.....like loaning my 12 string guitar to a known screwup.

Ok, my daughter got a nice picture of our Weeping China Doll Tree and a flower. If you look closely at the tree, you can see the flowers drape down the trunk on "tendrils". They are very delicate, not like branches or rose canes at all. It is simiar to a Weeping Willow in the way it grows.
The flower for the tree is similar to the China Doll bush, but lighter in color and more delicate looking.

And yes, I know the pictures are big, but the flowers are small. So there.

You can practically smell them. I swiped that last one for a desktop!

I stole this idea from DLL and put a rose on my desktop, too. I centered mine, though; I like the media to be on a black background. I chose the very orangey rose. Thanks, DLL and Stinky!!

True, true. Grandson comes first.
My desktop picture was the coral rose, Gizmo, with the sea creature looking center.

My oldest daughter took this picture of her son, my grandson, at a birthday party this morning.

She didn't alter the picture at all. She has a friend who is a professional photographer who told her how to set her camera for pictures like this.
thats a cool picture stinkerbell. they got ever last drop of water in this.
That's great, Stinky, and your grandson is adorable.
Sometimes your job can be a real pain in the butt. This was from a local La Jolla neighborhood newspaper about the upgrades happening at the mall. Sorry the paper was very wrinkled.

OK, not roses, but I just had to share a couple of pictures with you. I was recently contacted by a distant cousin regarding some family history work I've been doing. He sent me this picture of his father, my great grandmother's brother. He was born in 1899, so you can guesstimate the date of the pictures.
I laughed so hard when I saw the scowl on this little boys face and I thought, man, if I were him and I had to wear a that get-up, I'd be pissed off, too.
This is him a couple years later. He doesn't look toooooo much happier, does he?
Can't say as I would be too thrilled about that outfit either or the hat in the other one. I have some old pictures of great grandparents and some of the clothes they wore and I am glad we arent in that era.
At the time, he was in the height of fashion! Great pics, thank for sharing, Stinky.
Hey Stinky just wanted 2 say I love your pictires of your roses!

I am o so ready for rebloom magnifier.gif
We just picked up this one today. It's called Royal Amethyst and it's gorgeous and smells just as good as it looks. The outer part of the petals is a deep ameythist color while it gradually becomes a softer color towards the center. It's not a big bush, but really pretty!
This is NOT my picture, but I can't wait for it to bloom before I share it. It has tons of buds on it now, but with transplanting they may not fully open.
Oh goody more beautiful roses coming soon. Gorgeous Stinky good luck with it. It is a beauty. embrace.gif
That Amethyst is gorgeous Stinky! inlove1.gif
Thank you! I've very excited to have it be part of my rose obsess....errrrr....garden.
Here in Sunny Calif I am in the middle of a bloom season. My "disneyland rose" got its first blossom and I was telling the neighbor and his little daughter about where it came from and she reached out and pulled it off the new little bush. It wasn't even open enough yet to have taken a pic and I was surprised by having a bloom so soon after planting. I doubt I will get another one this season. That little girl will be given a rock for Halloween.

The captions are what make me crack up. There was one caption that said he can't look because he's pouring bleach into his eyes. That's what I think I need to do after looking at some of these pics!
I have to go to Walmart tomorrow and now I am trying to find something appropriate to wear. I am so angry that I threw away my happy face pants.
