It is not a stupid question. I asked you why you would want to keep formatting your computer. Formatting should only be done if absolutely necessary and as a last resort. Insulting me will not get you any answers whatsoever.
BTW, I did not jump down your throat. I asked a question. Trust me, you don't want me jumping down your throat. I have no tolerance for ignorant people.
well sir what your beef a bout formating do it cause wear and tear on the hard drive.

I don't have a beef with formatting. Formatting should only be done when absolutely necessary it is not recommended as a solution to computer problems and since you don't want to share any info about why you want to keep formatting I can't offer any possible easier solutions either.
well i heard formating should be done every 6 months to get clots out of your registory. that why i ask is it hard on your hard drive doing windowns every 6 months say.

You are getting bad info. It is not necessary to format your hard drive to clean your registry. There are plenty of free programs like http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Free/3000-2086_4-10407614.html (http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Free/3000-2086_4-10407614.html) that help keep your computer running smoothly
thanks homer nice program

Homer, it's a wonder you have ANY patience left, lol.
Wow, this thread made a couple of curvy turns. Homer gets the patience award on this one, that's for sure. It cracks me up that someone asks a simple, reasonable question and the reaction to that question is completely unreasonable! God bless you, Homeroooo!!
I may be a pc dummy but I have a 10 year old desktop that runs really well still and I have NEVER done a reformat..Is that normal? undecided.gif

It sounds like you did it right, gran. System updates is NOT a reformat.

Only if the feature is enabled
Re formating is considered a last resort to a pc that's basically had it, often due to age, and all other remedies have been exhausted. This has always been my experience. In most cases it's more practical to simply buy a new computer.
No win 7 has to be defragged just like everything else all computers have a maintence program that you can set to run at set times.
Homer you deserve it beer11.gif
I may be wrong, but don't they now call it restoring a hard drive? And yes, it seems they were asking about doing a disk defrag? With the size of hard drives theses days, it's just not needed. My hat is off, and dropping in the snow, to the person with the 10 year old puter, that still can earn a badge. It's rarely I'm proud, but you have done well! Now, as to the hats's location?
As long as old nellie keeps working I am not gonna replace her ..I did have to add ram a couple years ago but that is it..I monthly take the cover off and blow all the dust out and keep the guts clean and I think that has helped a lot..But sadly this week my cd burner is acting up..out of a 20 song burn I only get maybe 5 on the cd..grrrrrrrrrr..But gonna do a blow out tonight and maybe after a good clean it will work right again..
OOPS...I lied unintentionally..I bought it March 2002..It isn't 10 years old yet..
