The Westboro Baptist Church took to an iPhone when they heard about Steve Jobs' death Wednesday night, sending out a message saying the Apple founder would be going to hell and calling for a protest of his funeral.
"Westboro will picket his funeral. He had a huge platform; gave God no glory and taught sin," wrote Margie Phelps, daughter of the church's founder.
Unsurprisingly, Phelps' proclamation drew widespread scorn on Twitter. And it was ironic, many noted, that she made her announcement using Twitter for iPhone. "The iPhone-wielding Westboro members seemed unable to find any irony in their embrace of the technology of a man they condemn," reported The Washington Post.
"She used an iPhone to announce [the protests]," wrote Dave Weigel at Slate. "By extension, Margie Phelps -- nay, the entire Westboro Baptist Church -- has embraced a philosophy of tolerance for gays. Well done."
In response to her critics, Phelps tweeted Thursday morning "Rebels are mad cuz I used iPhone to tell you Steve Jobs is in hell. God created iPhone for that purpose! :)"
This Church is so totally whacked they are a joke...
In my view, first of all, those zealots, fanatics, whatever you want to call them, should be ashamed of themselves. For not only protesting Job's funeral but others as well. Especially our military. They have no right to call themselves "A Church of God"!
