Basically, change your passwords often or risk having your account(s) info vulnerable. It wouldn't have affected all sites only ones that use one certain piece of software (OpenSSL), it just so happens a lot of places use that software.
It's unlikely your information has been compromised because it's basically like finding a needle in a field full of needles, but you never know.
