People will only agree to place banner ads on a site that has a high traffic history. You have to have a certain history of traffic to your site and that is still no guarantee that someone will advertise with you. Banner ads is also much different than web hosting. Web hosting is what Klaue does. (If I'm not mistaken) For instance klaue hosts this website on his server.

If they wanted to pay. I'm sure the guys would let them. Although it doesn't make sense since this site appears to be a thorn in their side.

What? Hosting or banner ads?
Title: Re:Web Hosting

Banner ads
Title: Re:Web Hosting
Post by: Homer on February 01, 2004, 01:23:12 PM
That's questionable. Myself I rarely click banner ads. Most pople do not click them. Hence, the birth of the popup ad. Don't click them either. Always have my popup blocker on.

Here's an example for you to consider:

XYZ Company wants to advertise via a banner ad on your website.

They agree to pay you $0.01 per banner click on your website.

1,000 people would have to click that banner for you to make $10.00

10,000 people would have to click it for you to make $100.00

100,000 people would have to click it for you to make $1,000.00

In alot of cases banner ads just about cover the price of having your website hosted on a server.

You decide.

So its cheaper to Banner advertise then web hosting?
Title: Re:Web Hosting
Post by: Homer on February 01, 2004, 01:32:35 PM
In order to generate decent revenue from banner ad advertising you have to have a website that advertisers would want to advertise on.

Advertisers do not want to advertise on a person's personal web page.

O well how would i create a website that people would want to see?
Title: Re:Web Hosting
Post by: Homer on February 01, 2004, 01:47:36 PM
You need to come up with a theme and concept.

Take this site for instance.

Last month this site got in excess of 100,000 hits. That's what an advertiser wants to see. A site with traffic. They want to reach as many people as possible. They can also see there is 1800 members here. That may be attractive to some advertisers. It is probably also not enough traffic for most advertisers.

Take a look at the websites you visit on the net. Take Yahoo for instance. Yahoo's homepage probably gets millions of hits a day on their homepage. This is very attractive to advertisers. Look at their banners. In general they are very large companies advertising on these sites because they can expose themselves to many more people than say this site.

It is not hard to make a website. I don't mean to insult you or discourage you but from what I know about you so far you do not have the technical knowledge to get involved in this type of venture yet.

Your potential website has to have selling point. You have to give an advertiser a reason to say: Hey! Now that's a site I want to advertise on.

If you have money to put down for hosting you can make a lot more money than w/ banner ads... Takes more money to make more money... With hosting what you do is buy a BIG chunk of bandwidth and space on some server somewhere (say 500 gigs upload/download a month and say 250 gigs of hard space a month; this is just an example)... Then what you do is pay for that bandwidth in bulk... So lets just throw a number out... Say 100 bucks a month for that deal (the real stuff is MUCH MORE expensive)... Now what you do is advertise that you can host websites... You tell people that you can host their website with 10 gigs ul/dl and 5 gigs of hard space for 20 bucks a month... So you sell 50 accounts @ $20 a month... In turn you make $1000 a month... Yes, you can make plenty of money doing hosting, but it is no walk in the park... You have to know a lot about the internet and how it works... HTML, PHP, Perl, MySQL, mail servers, and a slew of other IT related languages and processes...

If you can create some site that generates LOTS of traffic (as John explained) then banners can make you a bit of money... But if you have the know-how and the upfront cash hosting can make you lots more (but you have to work it almost as much as a full time job)...

Klaue has a great web hosting plan... except for what I was wanting lol... He has ASP extensions enabled... but not the ASP Scripting.

Other than that, I think Klaue has one heck of a deal.

No... Doesn't look like he's hosting websites... But he is seeking a loving woman... I love this website... It cracks me up everytime I go through the whole thing...  ;D

This is my favorite quote: (from the Bathe with Jesus link)

"In most cases Jesus will be available and eager to speak to you about spirituality if desired. If you are not spiritual, Jesus will share a beer and pleasant existential banter.

How can you win? Inquire within by telling a little about yourself and why you'd make a good bathing partner for Jesus.

You must be 18 or older to enter. Shower can be exchanged for bubble bath upon request."

Oh boy ::) Some people have too much time on their hands. I remember a few years ago there was a guy they called walking Jesus. He was walking all over the US telling people he was Jesus. He looked like him. Wonder if it might be same person.

Don't know about that, but apparently Jesus supports the NRA and the band Slayer...   ;D  Wow what a guy... But I mean I guess it makes sense Jesus supports the NRA...  Moses (aka Charlton Heston) is the president of the NRA... So it only makes sense that the son of Moses' God would be a supporter his organization...  ::)

Could care less. I have nothing to hide. :P
Title: Re:Web Hosting
Post by: fatkid on February 05, 2004, 03:12:16 PM
It's not a matter of do you have any thing to hide or not... It's a matter privacy...
We did a project much like this in my Pysch 205 class... We took 3 people who said they never had anything to hide... Didn't care if someone was looking over their shoulder etc etc etc... They were then paired up with someone in class...  That person's job was to follow them EVERYWHERE... Shower, toliet, phone, sleep, everything.... They weren't sapposed to interact with the person in anyway... Just monitor... The project lasted for 3 days... Every single person that had nothing to hide HATED having someone watch everything they did... There wasn't an ounce of privacy to be had...

Long lesson learned short... Though you may not have anything to hide, once your ability to hide has been taken away, you tend to get a little stir crazy...
Title: Re:Web Hosting
Post by: Homer on February 05, 2004, 03:28:03 PM
Isn't a whole lot of privacy these days anyway. Big Brother is watching in more ways than we probably know.
Title: Re:Web Hosting

That's why the more we lose the little privacy we haev left, the more and more freaked out I get...

Title: Re:Web Hosting
Post by: fatkid on February 06, 2004, 07:37:13 AM
Ok well it can mean "that" as well... I understand that... But the song is a recipe (edited by John questionable content)...

Die Eier von Satan

Eine halbe Tasse Staubzucker
Ein Viertel Teelöffel Salz
Eine Messerspitze türkisches Haschisch
Ein halbes Pfund Butter
Ein Teelöffel Vanillenzucker
Ein halbes Pfund Mehl
Einhundertfünfzig Gramm gemahlene Nüsse
Ein wenig extra Staubzucker
... und keine Eier

In eine Schüssel geben
Butter einrühren
Gemahlene Nüsse zugeben und
Den Teig verkneten

Augenballgroße Stücke vom Teig formen
Im Staubzucker wälzen und
Sagt die Zauberwörter
Simsalbimbamba Saladu Saladim

Auf ein gefettetes Backblech legen und
Bei zweihundert Grad für fünfzehn Minuten backen und
KEINE EIER

Bei zweihundert Grad für fünfzehn Minuten backen und
Keine Eier ..

and now in English...

The Eggs/(edited by John questionable content)

Half a cup of powdered sugar
One quarter teaspoon salt
One knifetip (edited by John questionable content)
Half a pound butter
One teaspoon vanilla-sugar
Half a pound flour
150 g ground nuts
A little extra powdered sugar
... and no eggs

Place in a bowl
Add butter
Add the ground nuts and
Knead the dough

Form eyeball-size pieces from the dough
Roll in the powdered sugar
and say the Magic Words:
"Sim sala bim bamba sala do saladim"

Place on a greased baking pan and
Bake at 200 degrees for 15 minutes
...AND NO EGGS

Bake at 200 degrees for 15 minutes
...and no eggs.

Yup that's my favorite band right there... Telling you how to make brownies... *sigh*  I  Tool...
