Title: Hockey Lock-out, game over.
Post by: Snarechick on February 16, 2005, 08:50:02 PM
I, for one, am a hockey fanatic.  Just wondered if there were any thoughts on the continued lock-out and today's official cancelation of the 2005 season.  This will be only the second time that the Stanely Cup will not be awarded.

It's not that far out of the question that we could lose another season in 2006, do you believe that will happen?  Who do you think is at fault for the continued breakdowns at the bargaining table?

Anyone want to join me for an "adult beverage" in Hockey Town?   ;)

I would like to see Yzerman (among some other future Hall of Fame players) play one last season, but this puts that in limbo for some of the older guys.

Go Redwings!

hey all, i think im a bigger hockey fan than anyone.  i am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lost without my RED WINGS hockey that its driving me batty.  when watching a game, i get sooooooooooooo involved in the game i scare my hubby and he has to leave the room and whats really funny is when we go to a local bar or restaraunt/bar to watch the game he ends up hiding under the table coz i get so involved with the game.  u would swear i was at the game and the only one there.  during hockey season u wont see me wear any kind of shirt if it dont have RED WINGS on it and on game day i faithfully wear my jearsey.  i think that the lack of NHL this year is part of my depression problem, i just cant live without my RED WING hockey and they better not cancel next season, or or or or or, they just better not cancel it.

   GO DETROIT RED WINGS

If everyone wants to post their favorite hockey team I'll run a simulation playoff for the PogoCheats Cup! I know it's not the same as the real thing but it could be a bit fun.(https://www.pogocheats.net/proxy/?http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/aiw/nhl4.gif)

I was going to wait until the season started to sport the new pics.   :-\  Now I'm just doing it as my little protest.

I'm also a closet Rangers and Penguins fan.  Unlike Football and Baseball, there is no teams I truly dislike or hate.

QuoteMaybe they are at the sporting goods store getting us cool hockey stuff!

Or they are passed out after realizing what cool chicks we are (and realizing we are slightly agressive when slapping the plexiglass after an upclose and personal check into the boards). O0

I too wear my Redwings jersey (and nothing else, why would I :P) on game days, scream at the tv (or at the players when I go to a game), throw things at the tv (or at the players when we could still lob Octupi onto the ice)...man I'm missing this season.  The only good thing?  I don't have to break land speed records to get home in time to watch the games, haha!

WHOOHOO!! O0  I am Sooo glad to see some RedWings fans in here...I am so bummed out it sucks to not being able to go to the Joe to watch the Wings. Hopefully next year will be different.

Whats Cool is that Darrien Hatcher of the Redwings and his brother Kevin have their summer home a block away from me....and Yzerman has a home the next town over.(Tho I have never seen him)  Its cool to be able to see the Hatchers at the Local Bar or racing their boats in the river..I think they come to my area to get away from the "Famous" side of their Lives and just be a Normal Person

i think its cool to see lots of Detroit fans here.  i unfortunately havent had the pleasure of attending a real game at the joe.  i was born and raised in Detroit and never had the chance to attend a game.  i moved to flint 6 years ago coz of work, and only once have i had the chance to attend a game at the Joe but couldnt go coz it was a wed. nite game and having to b at work at 6 am the next day, i had to pass  :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(.   this year i had the money, time, and means to go, and guess what, NO GAMES!   :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(.  Sooooooooooooooooooo, if anyone ever has an extra ticket and needs someone to go with them - hint, hint, hint  O0, when they finally go back to playing.

To each their own.  The only time I threw an octopus on the ice was in fact the same octopus I had been doing physical labs on during biology when in high school.  So in fact, it was not a waste of life but rather a six week disection lab animal- not everyone goes out and buys something just to waste it.  Take it for what it's worth, but I'm not justifying the history at the Joe by any means.  Color me stupid, I was a freshmen in high school.

I think that pastime (as it no longer happens anyway) is by far less obnoxious than the trash talking among players in other pro sports, the erruptions from less than classy coaches who swear more in one hour than most truckers do in a day, the severe lack of respect promoted by show boating pro players in various sports, and the even less classy incidents that happen (though not on such a grand scale) such as the basketbrawl that happened just down the road at the Palace.  That was a long time in the making, but a forseeable event...I fear the NFL will head down that path in the future as well.  High schools were having mass fights at sporting events, but seeing it happen by overpaid athletes on national television in "self defense" of a cup has caused numerous events to happen in the past months alone here in Michigan.  Even worse is the far too common "rules do not apply" actions by the courts with pro players and serious crimes.

I live just down the road from you in Owosso.  Howdy neighbor!

I'll pick you up on the way ;D

(snarechick) well howdy neighbor ;D.  that sounds like a great idea  O0.

yes, the players all do need to learn to behave.  professional athletes - win or lose - are paid to play the game, not fight.  they are also paid to be positive role models for future generations and future leaders of the world.  ane i think that would take us to a whole nother topic/thread so i wont go there.

I still cannot believe there is no hovkey until the end of year...maybe.  I love it so much! I was waiting for it to start to get season tickets down here in florida for maybe a chance to see the red wings play!!  My parents grew up in detroit and therefore I grew up to be a red wing fan.  They were saying how hockey is going to take a big drop in fans now, but I don't believe them.  My boyfriend said he will never buy tickets again but I believe I canot talk him out of it!   >:D

Boy, I wouldn't want kids using professional athletes as role models. They are anything but. Why is it that everyone thinks athletes should be role models for their children? Parents should be the only role models a child should ever need. Most of today's parents want someone else to raise their kids. They lack the parenting skills. They don't pay attention to their kids, spend time with them, talk to them etc.

i totally agree with you homer, but the facts are that kids today look up to athlets, musicians, actors/astresses, etc. as role models because the parents dont care and dont take any interest in thier children or what they are doing.  these athletes etc. know they are looked up too so why do they do that nonsense.  and u nailed the nail right on the head, they are paid to play a specific sport and unless that sport is boxing, wrestling, or some form of karate they need to play that sport and not fight.  so with that, i think i will quit while i am ahead - for now  8).

Well said, Homer.  Far too often kids look up to the wrong role models when they have far better options at home and in the classroom.

*Waves at Guardian Angel*  Another neighbor!  Perhaps next season (if we even have hockey at that point) we can all get together for a Redwings game and eats in Hockey Town. O0

I don't know about you two, but I'm hating this winter and the lack of snow.  It's Michigan for cryin' out loud!

howdy neighbor guardian angel.

i hope there is a season next year.  it helps the winter go by faster.  i dont like the cold let alone that white flakey stuff.  dont remind me that this is michigan especially in the winter - lol.
