Title: Jigsaw Detector V4.0
Post by: Buster on April 02, 2005, 12:15:50 AM
I am still having a problem with this program.  It starts and 'sorts' the pieces, but not correctly, so it gets stuck looking for the same piece over and over.

I have tried it on slow, medium and insane.  They all do the same.

1) Operating system - Win XP
2) Browser - Internet Explorer
3) Color setting 32 bit
4) Screen resolution - 1024x768
5) Smooth edges of screen fonts checked
6) What Java you are using - sun java
7) Is anything at all happening when you start the program - see above :-[

I have done all that too...All mine does is get the magnet, runs it back and forth across the screen til it gets all the pieces to the bottom right of the screen, then puts them in a big pile in the middle of the screen and sits there. I checked everything!!  :-\

I had that problems too until I unset Sun Java...go to Internet Explorer, Internet Options, Advanced, then scroll down and you will see it.

Now, the problem I'm having is...it works the puzzle, but skips some of the pieces and freaks out because it can't find what its looking for.

i got 4.0 from the homepage on this site.

well are u running alot of other programs??  cause the game itself uses alot of memory.  I can't run Jigsaw Detective from IE and run AOL at the same time.  The auto won't run..it will just sit there.

If you have other programs open in the background that might be affecting the performance. Close any program your not using then try the auto. The only thing I have open is the browser and the auto and it works perfectly. Approx a bit over 3 minutes to finish the puzzle. ;)

Use internet explorer to download the file off of badgehelp.com

AOL uses a proxy and their cache hasn't been flushed yet. Thats why you are unable to get v4.0 via the AOL browser.

I was running mine on fast earlier, but now on insane..it takes about 3-5 minutes to complete a puzzle.  personally, it doesn't matter how long it takes..just as long as the auto can complete the puzzle faster than me.  LOL

I have read all 3 pages of what everyone has suggested and tried everything. i have win xp and im on ie, screen @ 1024x768 and uncheck smooth edges thingy and nothing has changed....It still get the magnet, puts all the pieces to the bottom right, then stacks them in the middle and sits there. :'(

mine does too  :'(
Homer, you say to UNcheck smooth edges, but the posts from people who have it working ok say that smooth edges are CHECKED. Who is right?
All I have is a dot flying around the screen and a kitten sitting at my monitor trying to catch it ! ::)

Only problem I'm having is that it will put half to 3/4 of the border together, then for some reason the magnet moves the whole border over and down a lil bit and the auto can't find to put the pieces together.Anyone else having this problem?

Hey Iceman.  I had the same problem.  It starts sorting the pieces then it has glitched where it put the left side pieces in the wrong pile and it tries the same three pieces over and over again.  For me, I had to load IE....unselect my Sun Java...and then when I loaded the game in IE..it worked perfect.  Hope this helps.

I got Jigsaw 4 to work (the first version that works for me) and here's some stuff that might help.

Win XP Home SP2 (fully updated), Pentium 4 Mobile 2.7ghz, 512mb RAM, 1024x768, Radeon 9500 Mobile 16mb DDR, works both with smooth fonts on and off...

Now, the auto will not work for me at all in Mozilla Firefox 1.0.1 running Sun Java 5.0. In the auto, all of the speed settings give the same result. Selecting 'slow' makes the auto still run on insane, which my computer just can't keep up with. The auto tries to sort the pieces to fast and the lag just kills everything.

Using Internet Explorer and MS JVM, I have no problems at all. The speed setting actually works, and the auto is able to run even on insane speed.

Here is my second computer. Athlon 1.0gh, 512mb RAM, 1024x768, Radeon 9000 Pro 64mb DDR. Will not run using Firefox 1.0.1 and Sun Java 5.0 because of the afore-mentioned speed setting issue. The system won't allow me to install MS JVM for some odd reason, but will work in Internet Explorer with the Sun Java.

In conclusion, my results were:
(Laptop) Firefox 1.0.1 + Sun Java 5.0 - No Luck!
(Laptop) Internet Explorer + MS JVM - Success!
(Desktop) Firefox 1.0.1 + Sun Java 5.0 - Success!

Go figure. :-\ Hope this helps somebody.

DL'd this and love it! Works wonderfully. Awesome! I really detest doing these ugly puzzles. I can't wait til I'm able to register this DL, and a couple others. You programmers amaze me...thanks for using your talents.
1) Operating system - Win XP; Service Pack 1; 512 MB of RAM
2) Browser - Internet Explorer
3) Color setting - 32 bit
4) Screen resolution - 1024x768
5) Smooth edges of screen fonts - checked
6) What Java you are using - sun java
DSL hook-up
I don't touch the mouse
Insane on Medium difficulty...a little over 3 minutes a puzzle. Gotta luv it!!!

Ok, I have a broadband connection through my cable company and still have AOL, the only reason I still have it is because it comes in handy sometimes when the cable is down and I still pay $9.95 a month for it because I told AOL I was poor and had to cancel my subscription (lol..they gave me 3 free months too boot).  Anyway, if you have Dial-up you can run AOL and another browser...just minimize AOL and open your other browser.

Hi everyone, I have been lurking around this place for a couple of months and figured it was time for me to open my mouth.
First of all I have to say that I Love This Place!!!     Thanks for all the help and the autos, I am trying them and purchasing them one by one.

My question (s) relate to the Jigsaw Detector and please don't think I'm crazy  :)   While using the trial, I would have a few things happen and I see others have had the same problems:
detector would pile pieces in the corner and freeze, would assemble part of the border and then move it and freak out, sort pieces wrong or just plain not work.   I have had all of this happen on the same trial, one puzzle it would work, the next it wouldn't.  The average time to complete a puzzle is 18 min.  Hey, I'm not complaining about that, I hate doing the puzzles anyway.  But no matter what speed I try it on it moves the same rate.  I'm beginning to think my puter is just possesed.
Here is what I am using:
1) Operating system Windows 2000
2) Browser Internet Explorer (tried Firefox and Netscape doesn't work at all)
3) Color setting  32 bit
4) Screen resolution 1024x768
5) Smooth edges unchecked
6) Have tried Sun and VM same problem with both
(7) Using broadband

My main question  (I can hear everyone laughing already), is, when it completes a puzzle is it supposed to just sit there or move on to the next puzzle?  When it completes on for me, it just sits there or moves the box all over the screen instead of clicking on ok.   Is this normal or is it the gremlin that lives in my puter?   Thanks again for all your help and keep up the good work.

Tyvm Bob.That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.I have tried that Motley minimizing my AOL.Problem I get Jigsaw moving my whole border and trying to put pieces where the border is moved too.I really don't care about how long it will take to do a puzzle 3 min or 20 min.Just wish it wouldn't move border.Maybe I can send a screenshot might be more helpful? Which will bring me to how do you take a screen shot and send it? Awesome auto except for moving my border  O0

You may have accidentally moved your mouse. I have found if you move the mouse after starting the auto at the end of the puzzzle that box will move all over the screen and not allow you to continue. Try to set your auto where it won't interfere with the puzzle screen and press start but don't move the mouse after starting. See if that helps. ;)

I have the same problem.  When I leave the auto to run by itself, it will do that (not all the time) but for no apparent reason.  It's usually when it says "Puzzle Complete...New Image Available"  but that's the only time it happens.  So i have to babysit my auto, which is not bad.
