Joe has a hidden setting in his Jigsaw Auto (hope he doesn't mind me posting this).

Get a fresh board ready and hold the "Left Shift" button down (and press start on the auto). Hold down that shift key until the auto clicks on the magnet to collect the pieces. Let it the shift button go .. if you have a fast enough computer, it'll give a new meaning to "insane" speed.  O0

Use this at your own risk. This will only work in v4.1

Ok, must be me, but this auto just doesn't work for me.
It takes forEVER for the magnet to scope out the pieces....
Then it sorts them
Then it tries to place one side but can't just keeps going through the cycle of the left side over and over and over and over....
What am I doing wrong?

Make sure your using v4.2 ..

QuoteIt takes forEVER for the magnet to scope out the pieces....

Sounds like you computer isn't fast enough to run it.
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 15, 2005, 11:27:33 PM
How fast does the computer need to be?
Running XPsp2
512 megs ram
1200 mhz
Computers clean, runs smooth, no problems...

Anyway... got it working, changed the screen res.
Watched it on Fast... took a bit over 16 mins.
Trying second puzzle on Insane (with the trick posted)... and it's freaking out. LOL!!! Can't complete the frame.

Post by: Mayhem on April 15, 2005, 11:32:53 PM
16 min on fast? thats a long time

On fast, it complete's puzzles in 3 min (2 min on insane) for me.

Make sure you dont have any other browsers / appz loaded in memory when running this auto.

Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 15, 2005, 11:40:50 PM
Nope nothing else running 'cept Norton in background.
Currently still on second puzzle, filling in guts - not even half done and is at 10 mins. (Insane)

hmmmm. I'll see what else I can do with the speed.
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Mayhem on April 15, 2005, 11:45:03 PM
Norton is a huge resource hog .. try turning that off.
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 15, 2005, 11:57:50 PM
Just killed a bunch of processes, and disabled Norton...
Closed Outlook... System tray is empty.

Here I go.................

2 minutes to do 2 sides of frame... then it got stuck so I stopped it. Somehow the frame got bumped off to the side and it was trying to fit pieces into an empty space.

Oh well....

Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 16, 2005, 07:37:52 AM
I think you need to UNcheck the Sun Java - correct me, anyone, if I'm wrong.
And change your screen resolution.

Anyway, I defraged last night, restarted this morning, quit all running apps, which is usually just Norton in the system tray, started IE and launched Jigsaw, when the game window opened I closed the background Pogo (Play Now) window, started JD.exe.
It still played at the same speed.

I'm a graphic designer and I thought my computer ran pretty dang fast but ya'll must have kickarse high powered machines to run JD like that.  Don't know what else could be causing it to run slow.

Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 18, 2005, 07:14:26 PM
Well I got the game to speed up by UNchecking JIT compiler and using Sun Java. Unfortunately the game now just gets stuck, it sorts out the pieces at the beginning but puts some of the left side frames in with the right side frames, then it can't find the pieces and keeps trying and trying til I just stop it.

Any fix for this? Or why this happens? What can I do to correct it?
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Homer on April 18, 2005, 07:15:27 PM
Are you using version 4.2?
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 18, 2005, 07:23:25 PM
Yes, it's the new one.... I even tried it on Medium speed, it flies through the magnet but then when it separates, it piles a bunch of pieces for the right side without analyzing them first, then it starts separating them therefore, can't find the pieces as it's building the left frame, cuz they're buried in the right side pile.

I haven't purchased it yet and have about 86% shareware left. Until I can get this thing running right... not gonna buy.

My next test is just using MicroVM - not Sun and UNcheck JIT....

NOPE... MicroVM slows it down entirely, magnet runs slow... Sun seems to make it fly faster just can't piece them together

No luck, does the same exact thing, just starts piling them on the right side of the frame, then decides to separate them...

I give up.

Sorry No sale here.

I got mine to work on MS Java..in IE.  I'm on a laptop and the auto woudn't run with Sun Java.
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 18, 2005, 09:55:09 PM
Oh I can get it to work with MicroVM, it's just that it takes over 16 minutes to complete 1 puzzle. Should run a LOT faster than that.
The game speeds up with Sun Java but won't run right.

Please make sure to give as much information as you can when you have technical problems.

Here are some things that will help:

1) Operating system (Windows 98, 200, ME, XP etc)
2) Browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape, AOL, Mozilla, Opera etc)
3) Color setting (24 bit, 32 bit etc)
4) Screen resolution (800x600, 1024x768)
5) Smooth edges of screen fonts checked or unchecked
6) What Java you are using
7) Is anything at all happening when you start the program

You get the idea the more information the better

3) Color setting 32 bit - tried 16
4) Screen resolution 1024x768
5) Smooth edges of screen fonts UNchecked
6) Tried BOTH javas
7) Is anything at all happening when you start the program - waits for me to click start

Ok, I downloaded the new java from sun v. 1.5
the sun java loads the pogo games in mozilla but won't load games in IE.

I'm trying desperately to get this game to work.
Can anyone think of ANY suggestions?
I think I've tried nearly EVERY combination of browsers and java settings. Did I forget anything?

Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix

What do you mean you have to press start??  When I load Jigsaw Detective..I have to press Start Game..then click play for it to go to the first puzzle. Once that loads I click start on the auto and it runs fine.

The only time I ever have an issue when after it completes a puzzle and the screen pops up that shows your progress..it will click OK fine, except when it says "New Image Unlocked" then the auto goes nuts.

But everyone has to press start, if I'm understanding you correctly.
Title: Re: jigsaw dective 4.0 found a fix
Post by: Pogo_Agogo on April 22, 2005, 08:09:51 PM
Never mind....  was a joke

I click start - it picks up the pieces with the magnet, then when it sorts out the pieces for the frame (left, right, top, bottom) it throws a bunch of them in the Right pile before sorting them.
THAT's my problem...

I've tried Mozilla, IE and Netscape (netscape, noooo goooda!)
I've tried Sun Java and MicroVM (yes, they have been updated)
I've tried different combos of Sun and Jit, No Sun, just Jit (compiler, if you're wondering) NO jit with Sun, etc etc etc.
I have the latest version of JD (v4.2)

MicroVM works the puzzle in IE but it takes over 15 minutes to complete 1 puzzle on "Insane" - same time on Slow.

Whatever, seems I can't get a clear answer on why the auto is just tossing a bunch of pieces without sorting them first THEN decides to sort them.
It's almost as if it doesn't quite put the magnet down.

Post by: missy on April 22, 2005, 08:12:55 PM
mine did that with Sun Java.  drove me nuts cause I couldn't figure out what was wrong.

I use IE...I actually have nothing checked under Advanced..well neither Sun Java or MS Java.  only thing checked it JIT Complier (whatever that is).  If you have that unchecked it won't run fast at all.  Accidently did that to mine and coudln't figure out what was wrong.
