What is RSS feeds you ask?
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content.
Basically it's just an easy way to distribute our latest news and to notify our users on what's new without you even having to visit the website!
To be able to receive RSS feeds, you will need to download a reader.
We recommend FeedReader. You can download it here (http://www.feedreader.com/releases/FeedReader314Setup.exe). It's 100% free.
Once you have it installed, the next step is to add your feeds.
1) Load up FeedReader and click the "Add New Feed" button. View the screenshot here (http://www.pogocheats.net/stuff/feedreader2.png).
2) You should see a pop up asking for you to insert a URL. View the screenshot here (http://www.pogocheats.net/stuff/feedreader3.png).
The URL for Pogocheats.net RSS feed :
http://www.pogocheats.net/rss.php (Main news page)
http://www.pogocheats.net/forum/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss2;limit=50 (All forum messages)
Once you have added those URLs, Goto Tools / Properties and click on the "Appearance" tab. From there, you will be able to select how often you want FeedReader to check for the latest news (it defaults to 1 hour).
Now that your all setup .. whenever there is any updates on either pogocheats or badgehelp.com, a pop up will show by your clock letting you know something has been updated!
View a screenshot of the pop up here (http://www.pogocheats.net/stuff/feedreader.png).
We just wanted to give our users another way to keep in touch of whats happening ... when it happens!
i keep getting this message everytimie i go there to download the file:
Could not read file.
Go back. /home/ftp/pub/sourceforge//s/so/sourceforge/feedreader/FeedReader290Setup.exe
Jul 02, 2005 16:45
Does anyone know why? and how to correct this?
That's weird .. it works fine here.
You can download it off their webpage at : http://www.feedreader.com
FeedReader also gives you a bunch of RSS feeds from various sites. Just delete all the default feeds / folders in order not to get pop ups from the other sites.
which one should i download? I see a list of all different ones, and i dont want to download the wrong one.
Download the top link
FeedReader290Setup.exe 1535333 93692 i386 .exe (32-bit Windows)
For all you RSS readers out there ..
When it comes down to the forum, what would you like to see in our RSS feed?
Do you want to be notified when there is New topics? New Posts? or both?
Let us know .. thanks!
The program needs some housekeeping when it is first set up. Too many preloaded topics. Once they're deleted it looks like it works great! O0
Mayhem, I'm going to run this for a few days before I give feedback on that question.
Thanks Jeffer!
Yeah, they preload it with all sort of feeds. It's the only app i could find that was 100% free though.
I would like to see new topics the most, and new posts would be cool too.

I obviously wasn't complaining... But wanted to give a heads up to other members... It's a good idea to clean up the feeds before evaluating it...
Free is good, but is usually not entirely free..
But for free this is an excellent app. No spyware, no adware, just a few extra feeds. For free it's a great find. My compliments for finding it Mayhem!
I know you weren't complaining ... If the users want to pay for an app, i could post some links in here tomorrow.
So all I need to do is delete the other folders, I already don't like all the little pop up things in the lower bottom of my screen.
That will do it Byrd...
Takes a minute or two.. The app won't let you delete the folders until you delete all the feeds in them. Then you are good to go.
You can turn that off .. no problem.
Goto Tools / Properties .. and under the General Tab, un checkmark "show popup window on taskbar" O0
Thanks ev1 for your quick response.
I have downloaded FeedReader and added both RSS feeds.
(And boy it sure is hard to delete EACH of those pre-installed feeds! :-X)
I would recommend PLUCK. It is an add on to your IE and you can "pluck" feeds out and it will list them on the left side of your browser
http://www.pluck.com/
Will this work with firefox's built in live bookmarks?
If you have Firefox's built in feed links, you don't need pluck.
However, I use ALL browsers, and yes, Firefox is a tad bit quicker on load up on many sites but it has difficulty interperating many sites (i.e. google mail). I would not recommend using Firefox. It's a great open source project and has a few advantages over the other browsers but it has too many problems in my opinion.
I use AVANT browser (downloadable from download.com). This has proven to me to be the steadiest browser with the most configurations out there.
Oscar, thanks for tip about the Avant browser. I d/l it and having been checking it out for the last 2 hours...I like what I am seeing....
After using the program for a few days I have to say I'm impressed. I just got home and only the unread posts from when I left work were highlighted. Once set up the program is easy to use.
Because of that I would like to see all new posts listed in the future. I assume that will include new topics as well.
This is unlikely to happen....as every time we want to put up a new "feed" we have to create a new xml file and upload it to the server. It would be too much work to update everytime a new post was made.
Aacck! I misspoke. (or mistyped).
Mayhem asked if we would like to be notified of new posts or new topics or both. That's what I was referring to.
Yeah, we can do both feeds if you like O0
Anyone object to this?
What do I care as long as somebody feeds me? :P (https://www.pogocheats.net/proxy/?http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5elf/steak.gif)
ok, I must be dumb.... what are feeds? And how do I put a pic on here from my files? (//)
If you would read the first message in this thread it would tell you what it is.

You don't have to sound mean. I just asked a simple question. I still didn't understand it.
Don't worry, pcheats is a little bit ahead of it's time. RSS is not very widespread but in about 6 months, a lot of websites will have it and more browsers will be equipped to deal with it and make it a more user friendly experience.
Right now its a techie thing.
Can anyone tell me how to get my picture to show up on my posts?

That was not being mean it is explained very clearly in that post.
I've been sitting here thinking about downloading the RSS feeder onto my computer and today I've finally decided to. After getting rid of all that useless junk, I found it to be very pleasant as I'm able to get updated messages when it happens (ok, every 5 mins) and I'm staying on top of whatever tips you guys give out. I'm glad this was created and happy this useful tool was pointed out. Keep up the good work!
-=Saint Hippo (took me several times to type this without using my real name, Pogo SN or my email address, lol)
The best thing to use as an RSS reader IMO is google. if you have a google acct, go to www.google.com/ig and you can customize your home pg to have a bunch of diff feeds. O0
MyYahoo! is great too, that is what I use.
cool going to go try now..
I just have to tell you what an awesome idea it is to have the Rss feeds. I even get to rely to posts from right inside the feedreeder. Its nice to get posts as they happen. That helped me to win a couple autos in a quickie contest. You guys are the best. Thanks for such a super site. :D
i like to be notified by both post and to be notified about every thing from pogocheats ty tc hagd Eddie O0
I've been using Thunderbird for my RSS feeds...but I might have to try out that Google one. Especially because it's sometimes hard to keep up with my specific feeds on my computer at work and the ones on my laptop at home.
And I think the RSS feature is great. It enables me to see what the latest discussions are without having to log in every day. And then I save the ones I want to go back to when I get a chance to log in. O0
I'm actually surprised how many people use the feed. I didn't think many people would
I just downloaded RSS and where is says "Add New Feed" what I copy and pasted as the URL for BadgeHelp.com and PogoCheats.com it tells me that it can not be found. Where do you add the new feeds.....from the top task bar or when you pull down the menu? Thanks for any help.
Bree
Did you use these URL's
The URL for Pogocheats.net RSS feed : http://www.pogocheats.net/rss.php
The URL for Badgehelp.com RSS feed : http://badgehelp.com/badgehelpmain.xml
Yes I did and it says "Can not find server with this server name". I can not figure out what I am doing wrong. The BadgeHelp one looks like it is loading but then reports what I wrote above.
I use feedreader http://www.feedreader.com/ and I never have had a problem. Sorry I wish I could help you.
Thank you Laurie I will try and install that one and see if works better for me. I really do appreciate your help. I look at the website you posted and went to download and I am not sure which one to download. Can you tell me which one I should download please?
Click on download the latest version on the right side and scroll down to where it says FeedReader290Setup.exe and download that one.
OK, Thank You Laurie!!!

:-\ I'm not a computer smartie myself, just know the basics and things. I was just wondering do we have to download this or can I just keep comming back to the forum and checking out posts and new updates? :-\
YeahReader is better than FeedReader.
YeahReader - is completely free RSS/RDF/Atom news reader and blog client (http://"http://www.yeahreader.com").
Just updated the first post to reflect this :
Pogocheats.net RSS feed URL's are :
http://www.pogocheats.net/rss.php (Main news page)
http://www.pogocheats.net/forum/index.php?action=.xml;type=rss (All forum messages)
