That was pretty interesting. After Sophia spoke up I was surprised she still got the gold star.

Yea I was surprised too.  Did you see the previews for next week?  Looks like she hasn't changed & still running her jaws off, lol.  The show wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be with all the negative publicity it got.
Title: Re: Kid Nation
Post by: Monkey on September 19, 2007, 06:27:41 PM
It wasn't as bad as I was expecting either. It was just OK, I was expecting it to be 10x worse.

It's nothing I'll go out of my way to watch every week.. I'll probably only watch it if nothing else is on tv.

That Sophia girl has attitude.. I like her  :)))

Sophia = Florida  :^*  I was afraid there was never going to be an adult running things.  It reminded me of a childrens survivor.

Winter Park's Sophia wins $20,000 on "Kid Nation," but the controversial series earns a brickbat

Posted on Sep 19, 2007 9:33:52 PM

Let me say something nice first about CBS' "Kid Nation," a show that usually creeped me out or bored me.

Sophia, the Winter Park girl participating, is a dynamic personality. Sophia (pictured) was 14 during production (she is 15 now). When she cooked, danced or complained, she was riveting. She also won $20,000 in the first episode as the hardest-working child in this reality series.

She earned every cent. Without her, "Kid Nation" would have been a slog. The producers evidently understand they are lucky to have this forceful personality. "Kid Nation" teased that she will be featured prominently next week.

The show, in which 40 spunky children set up a society, might more accurately be called "Camp With Elaborate Games." The premiere offered a splashy water-pumping exercise that could rival any challenge on  "Survivor."

Enough of the good stuff.

I have a low threshold for watching children cry. (They did a lot of that.)

Or seeing them live in a place that is dirty, dusty and cold.

Or witnessing young children pine for their parents. Little Jimmy, who is 8, packed it in and said goodbye.

I have to think many viewers followed him. "Kid Nation" aimed to be inspiring; the results were mostly cheesy and dull.

We've just come out of a summer when viewers mostly rejected the new reality series that broadcasters trotted out. I can't imagine they're longing for "Kid Nation."

The series made headlines after drawing allegations that it overworked the children and put them in dangerous situations.

CBS needed the furor to draw viewers. Wednesday night, the audience learned it was all much ado about nothing.

Feel free to cry along with the kids. This is what television has come to.

I saw four children and their parents on talk shows yesterday, and the parents didn't have a problem with the show, and neither did the kids. The media is crazy sometimes. Homer and I will be sending our children their and they better get the gold star or I will make them cry.  :{:

You can only imagine what her Mother is like.  :-\   I feel sorry for her Dad, I bet his wife is a real peice of work.

Did you see her jumping for reward? She never wanted it before. I thought it was going to be those big green dumpsters for their trash. This time I say take the food. They will run out of gas and fight over who is going to ride on it.

Before the show started, there was controversy about everything.  The two people I saw in an interview before it started were Laurel and DJ.  They both were with their parents and said they loved it and had the time of their life.  There were a few little accidents like 2 kids drank some bleach and something else I can't remember, but the filming crew people are with them 24/7.

I bet they feed them when the cameras aren't rolling. They let them take baths or showers, because if they didn't their hair would be all greasy by now, and you can tell it's not. It doesn't look they comb it or brush it though. (Except for Taylor) Gawd forbid she go out with messed up hair.

They probably really did kill a chicken, but I doubt they knew how to clean it and all that. I'm sure they help them alot and we just don't see it.

It's Finale night....I wonder how they are going to make this a finale..lol  Everyone gets clean clothes and a bath.  :)))

Edited to add... I read tonights show was going to consist of 3 challenges and a surprise that will bring tears to everyones eyes.

If the surprise is that they bring their families out...I'm going to be  :'((   like a baby. I already know.  :$%

Am I the only person who watched the finale?  :///  Am I the only person shocked over the $50,000 stars and who got them?  :///  Am I the only person who didn't see Taylors family?  :///  Am I the only person who cried?  :///

Will there be a Kid Nation 2? If so, how do I get my kids on it?  :)))

I agreed with Sophia. The other two I was meh...especially Migle.

I didn't think Zack deserved the small gold star. That was a sympathy move after he cried the week before.

I thought DK was faking his "tendon" problem.

What ever happened to the fried potatoes girl? :)))

Sophia did deserve it, but so did Zach  >:D  Zach has always been nice to everyone and he's the one who started cleaning up the town after they all spilled candy everywhere.  :)))  Zach was also nice to Taylor when she was being so mean all the time. I don't know what happened to potatoe girl, but every week I would see someone else on there I didn't even know..lol  They picked their favorites to give air time to, that's for sure.

Zach shouldn't have won just because he was nice to Taylor. :)))

I couldn't believe they mentioned Anjay for one of the 50k stars :o

They should of taken the 150,000 and divided it up between all of the kids. They all did something. Maybe it should of been a vote thing. It's kind of unfair the council decided on all three. They weren't even eligible.

I would be surprised if every kid didn't get some sort of prize like a 5k savings bond or something. I don't remember them saying it but maybe you got something for being elected to council. I'm sure everyone got something. They just couldn't let on during the show becuse they would really have had a riot.

I was expecting to see Taylor's family too cause I was sure curious but I figured I'd just missed em on there..lol.  Of all the families, thats the 1 I wanted to see  :)))  I was little disappointed in the last show actually, guess I was just expecting more  :-\

Homer, I read somewhere that the kids all recieved 5,000 for doing the show. Not bad for 40 days right?   :))) $125.00 bucks a day.

Cindy Lou, I guess we think the same because I wanted to see Taylors Mom. Her dad was probably not allowed to go..lmao  Maybe Taylors Mom didn't want to walk on that dirt or let the wind blow dust in her hair. I bet she is so Paris Hilton.  :)))

I heard there was a lot of controversy with this show. Because they are kids. Not sure if it will come back on or not. Depends on the ratings I guess and the legality of the show. I really liked the show though. My fiance thought that it was giving these kids a false sense empowerment at such a young age. But I don't think I totaly agree with him. My favorite was Alex, the little oriental kid. He was just so smart and cute, with that one big front tooth! LOL. I just wanted to squish him up. <..>
