Title: Java Permissions
Post by: hotpinklovesofa on April 18, 2013, 02:18:25 AM
Is anyone having to give permission after permission to get Java to work on their computers since the new update?  I have it set up to be permanent with Pogo but somehow I get the same result.  So annoying.  At least PC works for the most part and it's a quick click by Mac is being crazy and hasn't loaded since midnight. They have to come up with something new for these Java based games.  These nearly monthly Java issues are part of the reason I didn't renew my membership. *le sigh*

Yep! And not only that but I checked the "don't bother me with this stupida$$ thing again" but while playing Dice City Roller I got it several times while just waiting on the next round. It makes me think fondly of the old days of Sun Java.

And on a side note regarding Flash - I once tweeted that Adobe must feel updates give them immortality and they tweeted me back "We live for updates!".

I got the same issue as well.

Yep. Not only do I have the problem, but my parents do, too, and their only form of entertainment is Pogo. So when this crap happens, I have to explain to my folks that I can't help them because there doesn't seem to be a viable, permanent fix!

FECKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  (Pogo and Java, not my parents.)

Now I'm glad I haven't updated my Java yet. I saw the new release and decided to wait this time. I haven't had any issues using version 7 update 17.

I know this all too well.  Pogo is my Mothers entertainment.  At least today she has gone with the Senior group to the casino

I'm getting messages now about java blocking bad stuff.  It wound let me cut and paste the message.  It happens when the game is playing, not prior to loading.  This stinks because I think things are going along fine and can walk away from the puter.  Then I come back to see all has stopped due to this message.  Grrrrrr

Same here Squid.....I have tried everything I can think of to undo that stupid thing....even tried an older version of Java, but it wouldn't let me play at all then.  I sure am glad to see I'm not the only one with this crap going on.....and I bet there are lots of others.  Very annoying           girls18.gif        swear2.gif

WOW - Java sure is having lots of issues over the last 6 mos. or so.  I can be a very patient person but this is starting to wear on me.  C'mon, Java/Pogo.... pretty please?

And then I got another message that there was yet a new update so I figured - wrong - that it was a fix to this but I had this pop up after several rounds of DCR and then again after a full game of Monopoly:

So Java "discovered"???? First Java needs to quit with the Magellan expositions and get back to just letting us play our games. And discovered after 14 mins of play - like I was just strolling along the road and discovered mass transit.

If I were you all having issues with security warnings, I'd open the Java control panel when I knew I was going to only be on Pogo, click on the security tab, and set the security to "Low". Then when you are done, move it back up to the recommended level. See if that helps with all the security warnings on a trusted site.

Supposedly this link is alleged to give you the fix. But within an hour of doing this I was playing in Bingo Luau and had played 4 games then it popped up again! Several people had posted that this worked but I am pretty sure they just didn't come back several hours later when it happened again.

That route doesn't seem to solve anything.  It's either put up with the messages or turn off the part of Java that looks for bad code, thereby running the risk of running harmful code.  Am I wrong?

I'm still not having any issues with 7.17. If you want to try and uninstall 21 and install 17, here's a link to the older version: http://www.oldapps.com/java.php

The fix that is mentioned above, yes, it will mean you run the risk of running harmful code. Honestly, with Java, you run that risk no matter what anyway. That's why users should make themselves familiar with things like NoScript and AdblockPlus and just generally being vigilant in protecting yourself. I would rather use 7.17 and take the risk, than completely shut off the mixed code check like that link suggests in 21.

That's just me though. *shrug*. I don't use Java itself on any other site but Pogo.

I don't think I use Java on any site other than Pogo but I can't be sure.  I did have 7.17 but Pogo INSISTED that I update to play a game  I had no choice.

I'm still using 7.17 without any problems. Best with Java is not to update till one occurs.

I think I now have 7.21 but I this mess occurred before the update, too.

Hey Gang!! I was online with Norton over this issue and they walked me through the Java problem. She came into my puter, signed into Pogo and clicked on DON'T BLOCK. The Rep said if there's anything bad there, Norton would pick it up but if I clicked on BLOCK I'd have issues. Then she watched while I tried and it worked perfectly for me too. After that she went into my Norton Vault and woohoo nothing about Java there! Anyway, ssuming she was right about DON'T BLOCK, I've been following her advice without a problem.

Just as an afterthought, I'd think having a trustworthy antivirus you are comfortable with would be a good back up though... tumbsup.gif

Which game Squid? I haven't run into that yet with 17. I usually only play the games that have challenges and whatever I choose for my other two empty badge spots. So I may not hit a game that requires I upgrade.

I'm not 100% sure but it may have been Word Whomp or Tumble Bees.  Eeek, it could have been any of the personal challenges or MnM/Albums challenges, too.  SS, Snap, I don't remember.

RE: Security Alert Causing Issues
After downloading the lastest Java update, I resolved the problem of having that annoying "block/don't block" screen from popping up by doing the following. Hope this will help others. Begin by going to your start menu and clicking on Control Panel. Then go to JAVA in your control panel screen. When the Java screen comes up, click on the tab marked ADVANCED. Scroll down to heading titled MIXED CODE. Finish by clicking on the command box that says "ENABLE-HIDE WARNING AND RUN W/ PROTECTIONS." Be sure to then click on, APPLY. Exit the screen and control panel, and that should keep the annoying command screen from constantly popping up. Good Luck!!

I think I will try uninstalling the latest version and go back to the one that worked ok for me.

It's hit or miss on both my Mac and PC. I don't get it but usually after the fourth or fifth refresh it'll finally work. It's worse in Mac though b/c I get the spinning beach ball of death.  I just force quit now.  I think I'd be ripping my hair out though if I had badges to do on a weekly basis.

How often does JAVA do updates??

It's really hit and miss. Sometimes it's months, sometimes a few days. Depends on exploits found, how dangerous they are and how soon they patch them. Lately it's been around once a month or so.

Here's a little chart to see when the latest updates were: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_version_history#Java_7_updates

5 updates since January 2013.
