Hello, I made this thread to ask if someone could teach me how to play Pinochle?

If at first you don't succeed, don't try again!

Pinochle is a classic card game that was invented in the United States in the 1860's. The object of the game is for your team to reach 150 points.

Pinochle is a game for 4 players. The player at the top of the screen is on your team. The two players on the left and right side of the screen are on the other team. All points are shared equally between both members of the same team.

There are many versions of Pinochle. The version on Pogo is a "double deck" version, where there are 2 copies of every card.

Pinochle is divided into 3 parts:

Part 1: During the bid phase, look at your cards and decide if you want to make a bid. If you have a strong hand with lots of Aces or lots of cards of the same suit, consider bidding a couple of points higher than the 50-point minimum bid. You should usually have at least 10 points in a suit to bid 50. If you have 20 points in a suit, consider bidding around 53 or so. As a general rule, if you're learning how to play Pinochle for the first time, you should only bid 55 or more if you have 30 or more meld points in a single suit.

Part 2: During the meld phase, your meld points are scored automatically.

Part 3: During the trick phase, you take turns playing the cards. Your team scores bonus points for every Ace, 10, or King that your team wins! These bonus points are called "counters." (In Pinochle, the 10 is the 2nd highest card, beating all cards except the Ace!)

If your team's total score is equal or higher than your bid, all of your points are added to your running total.

If your team's total score is less than your bid for that round, you score 0 (the big NADA!)

At the end of the game, you win points for everything added together:

+ your meld points
+ your teammate's meld points
+ your counters (counters are bonus points you score in Part 3)
+ your teammate's counters
-------------------------------------
All that added together is your total score!
