Nothing spoils a good story like the arrival of an eyewitness.

I've owned about 6 cats over the years and the big red toms are the most affectionate of all.  They are big snugglers.

I had a mink cat once who was so smart, I thought he could do algebra.

My childhood cat was the same way .. he was real smart, affectionate and never wanted to sleep alone.

He lived for 17 years and was considered a big part of the family.

We were adopted by a cat last summer.  GORGEOUS male, long haired cat. He was obviously someones much loved pet. (In fact, we learned who the owners were and returned him, but he was back here within a couple hours, so now it's agreed by all that we are his.) Anyway, in the mornings when it's time to eat he makes this mournful plea for food.  In a very sympathetic voice I say, "Oh, poor pitiful kitty, you must be starving!" And he'll meow in the same tone I have just spoken to him. Cracks me up.

Awww, he sounds great - you must miss him.

I do! I had him cremated and have his ashes in the back room.
