When I was watching I noted that it did play the best card for the nil bid. Maybe it was a hit and miss and I always saw the 'right on! you it it baby' plays.

I have to say that the auto is not the smartest spades player.  When bidding NIL, it plays the four of hearts, not the Q of hearts, when another player has played the ace.  What's up wit dat?

You must have had a big score discrepancy.  I guess both teams can't bid nil at the same time.  Kind of makes sense.
