Made this last night and it was very yummy!

1 bag split peas, sorted and rinsed.
1 medium brown onion, diced
2 large celery stalks, diced
2 large carrots, shredded
1 T marjarom
1 hamhock
1 ham steak
salt and pepper to taste

Toss everything but the ham steak into the crock pot and cook on high for 7 hours.
Remove hamhock and puree soup with hand held pureer/blender
Remove meat from hamhock and dice ham steak, add to pureed soup and shout YUMMMMO!

sounds good.... like my pea soup recipe.  Marjoram really makes a difference.

What's a brown onion?  Do you mean a yellow onion?  Never heard of brown.

They have brown skin and a stronger flavor... or is it a milder flavor?   bubblegum.gif

Sounds delicious!  Am making it tomorrow.  Let's talk hamhocks,...I could not find just hammocks, I did find "smoked hammocks", are these the same and will this work? bubblegum.gif
