I was married to an atheist for 7 years, and although we did get married in a Catholic Church, the church would not recognize the marriage as a Catholic marriage unless he converted to ANY sort of Christianity. Since he never did, when we divorced, the church considered the marriage "dissolved," and therefore no annulment was necessary.

In other words, according to the Catholic Church anyway, it never happened. All Kidman had to prove was that it was dissolved legally and she was free to marry any country crooner she wanted. A loophole to be sure, but one that allowed Kidman to reconnect her Catholic faith with Keith Urban, the man she loves.
WTG Nicole! I'm so glad she didn't buy in to that Scientology crapola.
I dunno ... Id have annuled her marraige just on his recent antics .. Of course, obviously, I dont have that ability.
