Try going to your profile and under look and layout, make sure you have it set to use smilies.  For instance, mine is set to sofrayt under smilies. If you change a setting make sure you scroll to the bottom and click change profile before you exit.

I was just snooping around in here and realised that the smileys and emoticon thingies don't show up in any posts or on the page where I am doing this post from.  All i get is a rectangle box with a red x on left side and the name of the emoticon/smiley but no picture.  Any one got any ideas please?
