- September 03, 2007, 07:11:45 AMBOULDER, Colorado (AP) -- Brian Bonsall, who played Andy Keaton in "Family Ties," pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in a case involving his girlfriend and was sentenced to two years' probation, prosecutors said.
Three other charges against Bonsall, 25, were dismissed under a plea agreement entered on Friday. He was arrested in March after his girlfriend told police he poured an alcoholic drink on her face while she slept, put her in a choke hold and threw her onto a bed when she tried to leave.
Bonsall told investigators he pushed her down in self-defense after she cut his arm and face with a steak knife. She denied the claim and wasn't charged in the case.
Bonsall's lawyer, Paul McCormick, said Bonsall went through a 30-day rehab program and has been sober for over five months. Prosecutor Peter Maguire said Bonsall has been compliant with sobriety monitoring.
McCormick said Bonsall, who is working in construction and playing in a band, has gotten back together with his girlfriend and they are in couples counseling.
Bonsall appeared in three seasons of "Family Ties," the NBC sitcom that helped launch Michael J. Fox's career in the 1980s. He later appeared in episodes of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and the 1993 film "Father Hood."

The troubled actress - who was arrested for DUI (driving under the influence), possession of cocaine and driving on a suspended licence last month - is the subject of new adult movie 'Lindsay HoHand: Get Out Of My Fu**ing Way'.
According to gossip website TMZ.com, SexZ Pictures - the company also responsible for a host of other celebrity inspired X-rated films, including 'Britney Rears' and 'J Ho' - will be releasing the film in October.
Renowned adult performer Paulina James stars as the project's lead character, a "pop princess who can't seem to stop getting in trouble".
When the Lindsay-inspired character is pulled over by police for driving under the influence, she comes up with ever inventive ways of avoiding being charged.
The film will also examine the 'Mean girls' star's penchant for going out without any underwear.

Lohan Babes Didn't Balk at Bark Bash
A magazine editor barked something fierce at Dina Lohan for missing a dog-lovers' event, but sources tell TMZ that the barb has no bite.
"Animal Fair" editor Wendy Diamond and other organizers of the mag's Paws for Style event on Monday were reportedly "furious" that Mama Lohan and 13-year-old daughter Ali weren't there, according to Page Six. This prompted Diamond to quip to the crowd, "Chloe Lohan [the family dog] was sent to rehab after overdosing on [pet medication] Frontline. Like daughter, like dog."
