Ok, well I deleted cookies on both browsers, logged out, rebooted, and it is still saying 1 new message.  Thanks for trying to help though, Tara.

I did that AND deleted cookies and yet they flash. 

I had been replying to a PM and it didn't seem to be sending, so I came back to the forum for a bit and then checked outgoing messages and it showed I sent them, but it's still flashing a new message.
