Yes, they were awarded while you played Samurai GOLD whatever. For some reason, completing level 1 of Samurai also gave you level 1 of MDU, without even buying the MDU puzzles.

It seems I have it in my Game Award Album and got this from the forum:

If you go to your Game Award Album and check on page 8 (I think) you will find you have all the Down Under Badges.
They were awarded in January during a glitch.
