I know there has been some talks in the US and Canada about putting an end to it.

It seems Canada is waiting for the US to make a decision, but that won't happen anytime soon because of the upcoming election.

I wouldn't mind if they just stayed on DST all year long.  I've already changed my hand-set clocks.  The automatic ones take care of themselves.  The transition should be smoooooth.
