Mayhem, I think I got what you just said, but I want to make sure that I did it correctly and didn't screw something up.

I went to Start > Control Panel > Power Options , but when I got there I did not see the "Preferred Plans", what was marked on mine was "HP Recomment - Change Plan Settings.  I changed mine to Never on both battery and power cord (this is a laptop).  Here is a screen shot of what I did, it is a thumbnail, so you can click on the image itself to see it better and it doesn't take up as much room here.  Thanks in advance for your kind answer.   :^*

To turn off hibernation in Vista :

Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Power Options

Look under "Preferred Plans". Look to see what "plan" the radio button is enabled on.

When you find that, click on the link underneath it ("Change Plan Settings").

Set "Put the computer to sleep" to "Never". Then click on the "Save Changes" button.

I'm so glad I came back to this post just to see what the discussion was about.  I'm not all that impressed with Vista, either.  One of the programs I like to use DOES NOT like being put into hibernation, but Vista apparently doesn't provide the option to disable it.  I found a place on the web that tells how to program the computer manually to disable hibernation, but the thought of doing that scares me.  Seems to be lots of incompatabilities, but like the MS tech told me "it's not up to MS to make sure Windows is compatible with every single program out there, it's all the other companies responsibilities to make sure THEY are compatible wuth Windows".   :-\

Thank you so very much, I have been looking and looking where to change the smooth edge font thingy.  It didn't take me long to find this tip on where to do it with Vista.  Gawd I hate Vista, well hate is strong, just hate trying to find things on it compared to my XP.  Thanks again Mayhem.   O0

You need to uncheck the top box.

Thanks Mayhem:  I've gone there and there's a drop down box with two choices "standard" or "clear type".  It comes with clear type chose.  Then below that there's two boxes, both (originally) checked, one says "show shadows under menus" and the other says "show window contents while dragging".  There isn't any other choices.  Suggestions?

OK, I've got everything except the "smooth edges" done.  I've gone to help and support and typed in "smooth edges of screen fonts" and got so many answers I was afraid to use one of them.  I went to the "personalize" area and can't find the smooth edges anywhere.  Still trying.

You should be using the recommended 1024x768 you need to be in 24 or 32 bit color and you need to turn off your smooth edges of fonts. That is all done in the personalization section.

Homer, on Vista you go to control panel, then to "display settings".  On the left is a box with a large number "1".  Under that is a slider.  You slide the slider to the pixels you want.  So I did that according to your directions.  Everything on my computer got HUGE and still, it didn't work.  I go to Qwerty and I still have to babysit the cheat and manually click on "do you want to play again" and "start new game".  Oh and I tried it in classic view too.

Any other suggestions?  So many of the cheats act up in one way or another.
