Keep in mind that in Europe and other countries it would not be unusal. Several years ago a couple from Europe where visiting in Atlanta and left their infant in a stroller outside a cafe . In Europe this is accepted  practice they were not aware you dont do it here.  I try to keep an open mind about how other cultures do things. Peersonally I would never leave my child alone. And yeah they did not check often enough.  Perhaps this will cause them to rethink how things are done

Excuse me,  who leaves a FOUR year old and TWO yr old children alone in a hotel room????? Yes, they say they checked on them "frequently" , but apparently not frequently enuf!!! If they were that damn hungry, why didn't they just order room service??? Idiots!!!! And, their website,http://www.findmadeleine.com/  amazes me...read dad's entries... "Kate and I went for a run along the coast..."  Geez!!! :^
