check your remote for an arrow that you can hit to fast foward it   or try the next button to skip to the next part and you should be good to go

We've rented a couple DVDs that have done that also.  Or when renting a series DVD, the recap..... can't turn it off...... I don't know why.  I think it's their way of making sure you watch the credits or the ads, whichever the case may be.
