Glad you got your puter back...........same problem with me I had bad memory slot, drove them crazy because the memory kept testing good, it was slot that was bad.  When you start getting strange errors, or as you said a slowdown, always check mem first.

I finally have my computer up and running but it has been a strange experience. I had to take it to the computer geeks cause I was all out of ideas. Hardware checked out strange even they agreed I might have a bad HD.  They found that 3 out of 4 memory cards had popped loose. Never would have thought to check that. Second I had to remove all the Dell programming for it to work.  Only in my house would any of that happen. So if your computer starts running real slow and nothing else appears wrong check your memory slots.
