If he can get on the internet have him go to www.pctools.com

A quick google search indicates it could be a registry problem.

I have a buddy that he is getting the "blue screen of death" serveral times a day.  He has a toshiba satellite A65-s126  It has windows xp home ed.  Celeron 2.8 ghz,  768 RAM.  He has added more RAM and installed service pack 2 and it made it worse.  So he reformated his computer and during the reformating he got the "Blue screen of Death" again.  So now all he has is dervice pack 1 and he still gets the screen.  Does anyone have a clue what is going on here or what could be the problem.
