In most mexican mole sauces you find unsweetened chocolate so this doesn't sound uncommon other than I thought it was a 45 yr old's recipe. If it was a teens recipe they probably wouldn't have cleaned the hose.

The recipe that we have is very old, probably 45 years or so. I have been told he also added a hershey bar or a portion of one to the mix. Here goes:

2 lbs ground beef
1 large onion diced
1 clove garlic or garlic powder
1 can tomato sauce
4 TBSP chili powder
1 tsp red pepper
2 1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 dashes worstershire sauce
salt to taste
Qt. of water

Brown beef with onion and garlic, drain if needed, and add all other ingredients.

in a small bag, like a piece of clean pantyhose or a piece of cheesecloth or a tea ball, put:
4 to 5 bay leaves
35 whole allspice

Simmer 3 hrs

last 1/2 hour add:

1 TBSP dry mustard
1 tsp cumin
1 can kidney beans

remove spice bag and serve
