I think the last Windows update really screwed things up. Now everything is trying to update and when I woke up this morning I had so many things popped up I think FireFox was trying to update Adobe which wanted to update Photobucket which wanted to take pictures of the whole mess.

Maybe have her do what Homer tells everyone:

1. Make sure you have ALL windows updates
2. Run this program and fix any problems http://download.cnet.com/Advanced-SystemCare-Free/3000-2086_4-10407614.html
3. Defrag your pc
4. Reboot your pc

She said the numbers where highlighted  but it did take. I guess I could have her go back to last month some time and see if that works

Had a simular problem , I'm running vista . I was told by HP to restore all my settings back to a day or two before the problem . This can be done by pressing F11 when rebooting . Check to see if this procedure applies with XP .
