There are several "geek forums" that will answer your questions I use them myself from time to time when I get in over my head. Failing that  go to Best Buy start looking at hard drives and bingo someone will come and ask if you need help.

I have windows 7 and 4GB of RAM, I also have 4 each 1 terabyte internal SATA harddrives and 2 each 1 terabyte external USB harddrives. So, yes, you should not have a problem with a 1 TB drive.  I suggest you partition it out to smaller partitions but that is just a matter of taste these days, each of my internal drives I partitioned (250 gig per partition).
