Ok, yes... that's a bit different.  Someone with more know-how will have to respond.  I am not using Uncle Ottos from BH since getting my new puter (1+ year ago), which is the puter with Win 8.  My old puter had XP.  You might want to try going to the folder where Uncle Otto resides and right clicking the file/.exe, choosing to create a desktop icon or shortcut.  If that doesn't work, you might want to drag and drop to the desktop.  If neither works, it's easily reversible.

Sorry, I know... I'm pretty lame.  Helpfully lame, that is.  lol

I'm not sure I worded the issue...what I am asking is this....when I open uncle Oscar it asks if I want a desktop icon...I always say yes...but they never appear...does that help any now that I think I worded is right....lol....

don't shoot me...I'm old as it is....lol

I have Win 8 and my icons are on the desktop.  When I right click on the desktop, I have the following checked off:

View >>> small icons
              align icons to grid
              show desktop icons
              show desktop gadgets

Other than that, I'm not sure how to help.  GL

does anyone know how to make the icons show up in windows 8

I cant get the icons to appear when I select yes for icons to appear on the desktop...what setting do I need to change for that to happen...

this I a new comp with windows 8....I hate it....if anyone knows...please help
