I think maybe the resistance of the eagle's outstretched wings?  Did the octopus think he was going to eat the eagle or was he just defending himself from an attack?  Nature is so cool.

I saw this!  I would have hesitated to intervene.  As much as I don't want to see anything die, I think there's a natural order to things.
