I watched it again.  I keep expecting the water to get cleaner over time but it doesn't!  lol

You're right.  It will take the oxygen out of the water while it's turbulent.  Once it settles, it will probably be ok but before that happens, it will not impact the water environment well.  That sludge might have been great as a soil additive - probably full of good stuff for soil.
